I got some pics of Tony, Melvyn, Sean and myself somewhere in the Vaults, and will dig them out soon.

A great crowd to have a few drinks with, and see a Rolling Stones gig with. smileys with beer

One of the nicest pieces I’ve read on Charlie since his passing.

“He was one of the cats”

For another side of Charlie and Tim's jazz bond, check out this show from 2007.

I am sure someone must have linked to it at the time, but it is a really nice listen, especially as a companion to Tim's beautifully written tribute to Charlie the musician.

For those who do not know, Marian McPartland had a jazz show on NPR, Piano Jazz that ran for decades. Often it was just her and another pianist and they would trade stories and songs. But she did have guests from across the spectrum, like Willie Nelson, and Norah Jones along with jazz piano players like McCoy Tyner and Bill Evans. She started gigging in the 1940s and was part of the jazz scene for ages, so I am sure Charlie was thrilled to be on the show.

For me all these stories that have come out about Charlie show what a musician he was, not just in his chops-which are undeniable-but in his attitude toward the gig. But listen here to get a nice taste of his dry humor.

I will always keep in mind that day (October 18, 2017) when Tim Ries sent me a mail to say Charlie wanted to attend the concert of jazz trio Danilo Perez, John Patitucci and Brian Blade at New Morning club in Paris. What a wonderful evening ! Charlie stayed the first set. The day after, the Stones opened their three sold out shows at new U Arena in Nanterre (Paris suburb).

Great article, was really emotional when I read it the first time.
Tim also has similar vibe of kindness and gentleness like Charlie.
