Damn!

I just "discovered" his music this year too. Been on a dub kick ever since I recently checked out Clash's Sandinista! album...

Bought a bunch of his albums recently:
-Rainford
-Upsetters Live album
-Black Ark Experryments
-and I just ordered Ape-Ology last week (features Super Ape, Return of the Super Ape and Roast Fish Collie Weed & Corn Bread albums)

He had shows scheduled in London...I was hoping to catch him in France...

RIP

I see Lee Scratch Perry perform at a block party in Silver Lake (Los Angeles) a few years back. You could choke on the ganja in the air. (And he sounded good).

In a 2010 interview with Rolling Stone, Keith Richards described Perry as "the Salvador Dali of music".
"He's a mystery. The world is his instrument. You just have to listen," Richards said. "More than a producer, he knows how to inspire the artist's soul."

Lee performed in New Zealand nearly every year throughout the 90's, He was always popping here & there at different festivals or his own shows, to say his influence in NZ was big is an understatement all of our leading bands, and I mean all, are Roots based, Dub heavy, Ragga Stomp; Shapeshifter, Fat Freddy's Drop, Six60, Salmonella Dub etc all have strong connections to the Riddum

RIP Scratch the madman, and thats for real. Way more famous for his productions back in the day than his own "art". Many people thought his mad man thing was an act but in talking to a lot of people who knew him first hand over a long period, there was more than an act to it. Will not say more, just let his legacy speak for itself.

Rise In Power Scratch.

Great footage from Black Ark:

If anyone is on Facebook, go look up David Katz's account, he is sure to have some good and interesting things about Lee Perry. If not now, then no doubt soon. He knew him very well over a long period of time.
