I'm in the northern part of the state and so far our forecast is for tropical storm force winds and 2 - 4 inches of rain--can't imagine how scary it must be to be in the New Orleans area. And on the anniversary of Katrina. sad smiley

Hopefully they have learned their lessons and are better prepared than when Katrina hit.

Good luck everyone, stay safe.

It does not look good. Take care everyone in the area.

'Time is not on our side.' Gulf Coast braces for Sunday arrival of Hurricane Ida, potentially a Category 4 storm (CNN)

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell on Saturday warned residents planning to voluntarily evacuate -- which she recommended -- to get out now.

"Time is not on our side. It's just rapidly growing. It's intensifying," the mayor said at a news conference, referring to Ida. "If you're voluntarily evacuating our city, now is the time to leave -- you need to do so immediately. If you're planning to ride it out, again, make sure that you're able to hunker down."

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said Ida "will be one of the strongest hurricanes that hit anywhere in Louisiana since at least the 1850s."

Wow...terrible...stay safe everyone....

And then there's also this to worry about quoted from the article above:

"Meanwhile, Louisiana had no plans Friday to separate vaccinated and unvaccinated people in shelters in state assisted emergency facilities during Ida, according to Mike Steele,
a spokesperson for the state Homeland Security and Emergency Management....Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards expressed concern about sheltering while Covid-19 are on the rise in the state.
"The prospect of sheltering potentially thousands and thousands of people at the height of the fourth surge is very, very daunting," he said during a news conference about hurricane recovery efforts.

Hope all those along the coast have heeded the warning and have gotten the f out of dodge. Mother nature has been in a foul mood recently.

The city of New Orleans HAS NOT learnt.

2005 - Katrina
2012 - Isaac
2021 - Ida

Ida, maybe.

Not directly. But 15 inches of rain.

Mayor is beyond sense. IDIOT.

I live in SE LA across the lake from New Orleans.

I'm home.

Not leaving.

No reason to leave where I live. 3 weeks... might be different.

Stay safe GasLight!! Hope you have enough supplies/food/water to last several days. Hoping for some miracle that it's not as bad as it seems to be on tv.

Keep us updated if you're able to!

Hard to imagine the Stones were originally scheduled to perform at the Fairgrounds in 15 days. A lot has happened since then. Stay safe Gaslight. Prayers for all y’all in SE Louisiana.

To paraphrase Dr. John:

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust,
If Ida don’t get’cha then the ‘Rona must.

Not looking like Ida will make category 5 status although as Ida gets closer to landfall the water temp will go up. Maybe.

Not that that really matters.

Windy here, rain bands. Expecting possibly 90 mph winds here probably around 1 PM and possibly 11 foot storm surge this evening. Voluntary evacuation for residents south of a street, which I am, but there's no reason for me to leave.

And... still have power.

Ida hit Grand Isle, LA with a wind gust of 148mph and... the anemometer broke.

Port Fouchon had a sustained wind of 150mph, gusts to 185.

Ida also formed a double eyewall while making landfall, which has been wobbly - last I saw, still mostly over water while wobbling west. The 2nd eyewall will collapse soon and transfer power to the original eyewall, which will sustain the intensity a bit longer than if there wasn't a 2nd.

Getting some rain but the wind, which was blowing kind of decently, has stopped, which is very weird.

And... I still have power.

Cooking up some sausage and drinking some rum drinks to use up the ice. And... the wind picked back up.

You hang in there! None of this sounds good at all.

Down on the Gulf Coast, they're getting DESTROYED.

Up here on the original Gulf Coast... not so bad. A good ways away from the carnage.

It may get bad enough here but nothing at all, within range of a category 1 hurricane, compared to down below that are dealing with a category 4 for quite a while.

Enormous difference.

Scarily slow-moving. Was supposed to reach us this evening, now not until tomorrow afternoon (though with luck we'll only be on the outer bands).
