It's a Lie
Posted by: Four Stone Walls ()
Date: March 15, 2022 23:11

And a crying shame ....

Carrying on to tour when their main man has gone.

Putting a basher in his place (for US tour that made sense - was necessary)

Two unsuitable rhythm section men.

(In a rhythm and blues band)

Having not released a new album in 17 years.

How can anybody seriously get excited about this ?

The choice of Hyde Park was Inspired 9 years ago - could not have been bettered.

Why attempt to tread on that glorious legacy?

The thrill has gone.

Don't get taken in by this. It's not The Rolling Stones (as Band, now business)

They need to know how and when to bow out grcaciously.

They will do what they want. You don’t have to like it.

Okay 4 Stone Walls, I get your point and can sympathize with it to some degree. No need to quit the forum though. I don't mind your view but I'm not so sure the moderator does.
Point taken, now erase what you wrote or stand the consequences. I hate to see you leave.

Well I absolutely refuse to see them this spring and summer.

But that's only because I'm not planning to travel to Europe!

It isn't our place to question how 80 year old men, who have spent their entire lives playing music together, decide to spend their time.

No one can question your disappointment, or disapproval, but they decide and I certainly support their decision.

It's been quite a ride and it's sort of nice it's isn't over yet.

For me there's only one question anyone needs to answer about any band, do you like the music? If yes, if you can afford it, go, if you don't, don't.

For me, going to see the Stones is an "in the moment experience" which I really enjoy. I don't give a crap about whether someone else thinks they're Vegas (whatever that means) or Monte Carlo for that matter .......... I don't even think about the money that I've spent. It's the music and it still sure sounds fine to me........cool smiley

In 1976, according to the Evening Standard in London, "they were a parody of themselves". I didn't know what he meant then and still don't, they were a rock band playing rock 'n' roll (with a bit of funk).
I'm not sure the journalist knew what he was talkng about either - i guess he just thought it sounded profound.
Pretentious drivel more like......

I don't love you any more and the whole world should agree with me because I can't just walk away, I must lead everyone else out of your life.

God, I love social media.

Reminds me of a post-Rog-Floyd show I attended in 1994, where some guy kept running around informing everybody at the top of his voice that they're being betrayed, that this is not the real thing and that they're stupid if they don't realise it. Roughly 90 min into the show he started to request "Oxygene", and I started wondering if the guy knew at all what group was actually playing there ...

Anyway, if they like to continue touring with Steve Jordan and like playing with him, why shouldn't they? Noone's forced to attend the shows.

They are what they are. The Ultimate Greatest Hits Band. Long as you have a couple original members, a competent contingent of backup musicians, you've met the criteria. I'm not angry that people still go to see them at obscene prices play the same tired songs over and over. I don't have to go. If someone else wants to, have at it. Do you expect Herman to be backed up by the original Hermits?

They're not lying to anyone. They have a brand and they're exploiting it while they still can. Scooting as much money off the table while the pickins' is still lush. It's not for me anymore. I saw them repeatedly in much better days. I thought they ended in 1990. I wait patiently as they release material from when they were on a whole other level. Best rhythm section. Best rhythm guitarist.

Enjoy yourselves. Pay a month's rent to hear Sympathy for the kajillionith time. It's no skin off my back. I still love the band.

Let's put it like this: considering the ongoing and steep rise of energy prices I don't think I would have enough money left for a decent ticket anyway ...

First Brian, then Mick Taylor, then Bill.
