I seriously doubt that the Stones replaced Charlie without knowing his dire prognosis. They knew this was coming so instead of waiting for him to get better (they likely knew he wouldn't) they got another drummer to finish this tour. It's the only thing that makes sense when they didn't postpone after his surgery.

That would be fantastic. And everyone would be in tears at the end of the concert.

Listening to B2B in the middle of the night. Charlie's clever and subtle drumming shines all through it.

There's been a lot of talk about the contracts/insurance policies saying Charlie was to be replaced in case of illness. But his death? At this point we don't know how that changes things.

Can't focus. Can't keep time. Reality itself has no rhythm. The entire world is drifting, sloppy, unsequenced, unpunctuated, unstructured and purposeless. Shit. @#$%&. No.

Charlie Watts is dead. RIP.

Hardly a surprise after the announcement that he was not making the tour.

He is already missed, for it was he, above all others, who validated the Stones' musical intentions. Mick & Keith have been in it for the money since 2012, if not long before, but at least they had something to say through 2005's ABB. However, knowing that Charlie was there lent an ethos that Mick & Keith & Ronnie do not enjoy.

Hopefully, the band will realize this is their chance to call it with dignity.

So sad. So many memories since 1973 in Brussells. So many countries and cities visited and always shouting : "Charlie ! Charlie !" when he came for the final bow. One of our best : La Havana. My husband and I are just crying. We lost a beloved friend.

A very very sad day in Stonesworld. RIP Charlie. You were the perfect drummer for the greatest rock n roll band ever and the perfect low key personality to play the buffer between two of the all time iconic rock personalities ever, Mick and Keith. My thoughts, prayers and condolences for Charlie's family, friends, The Stones and their fans throughout the world.

From Emily Eavis:

RIP Charlie. One of the all time greats. It took a lot of work to get the Stones to Glastonbury and apparently Charlie wasn’t keen on playing festivals. After their momentous gig in 2013 he wrote this message, which we have up at home. What an honour it was to have him play here.

The Rolling Stones were the biggest part of my live for more than 75%.

It's all over now!

This is the end, beautiful friend, the end!:-((((

The biggest part of my live died today - not just the great and never forgotten Charlie Watts, the British Gentleman, the coolest drummer in Rock History with his absolutely unique style. No, that’s the end, beautiful friends, of the greatest Rock band ever - the Rolling Stones.

My condolences go to his family, friends and to us fans all above the planet.

I love this man - still do. I’m devastated, shocked and deeply sad. Hoped for some more days...

Never bought the marketing speech since the tour announcement (It's a lie!), checked the news everyday in the morning, fearing he could have passed away, but still was hoping for some last gigs with him on drum.

R.I.P. beloved Charlie Watts - and the band, that made my days, weeks, months, years, decades!

Ain't no use in crying' - but I do...
