dear kind patient Keith Guitar Connoisseurs, our friend Kyriakos is hoping to learn
what that 12-string is that Keith's using on Wild Horses in the Four Flicks Twickenham show.

i had a blast trying to figure it out, but of course i still have no idea what exact instrument it is -
it looks like a Guild, but that's as far as i got, and even that much i'm not real sure of.
so i hope someone who knows what they're talking about can help. thank you kindly!

Can you post a picture Ms Sssoul? I have the DVD but its at home. As soon as I can see it I will know what it is. Failing that a description would be fine.

as you see, the shot's a bit distorted, but i hope it helps.

Hmmmm, the pickguard looks like a Guild but the headstock does not. I'll have to see the DVD to get a better look. Anyone else?

...well count the string ,....it´s a 10 string ,..I would say special made by one "private" guitar builder.
And it makes sense ,..keith plays WH in open G ,..so a 10 string would be perfect

that's the clearest shot i have of it, i'm afraid; in FF it really does look like it could be a Guild logo on the headstock -
but i know that's not real credible coming from someone who can't even count strings, so i'll pipe down. have some popcorn. :E

It's a Guild 10 string, custom made for Keith. It's basically a 10-string F50, a guitar that's also used by Slash.

Mathijs, i have a question about "custom made" that i always wanted to know. When a guitar like the Guild 10 string for example is custom made for Keith is it just a special edition of a guiatr or does it has special elements that Keith likes on a guitar like different size or shape or whatever?

I always enjoy your threads, sssoul. But I have to know, what does "have some popcorn" mean? I've seen it over and over and still don't get it. All I know is every time I read it I get a craving for popcorn and have a big batch, and I am developing an intense salt addiction!

i was reading that vintage guitar site, and was wondering about this statement, which is made about both the Dove and the Hummingbird:
"Because this is a square shoulder guitar, there aren't a lot of collectors interested in this model." (that's on this page: [www.provide.net])
so could anyone explain (please and thank you kindly!) what's with the square shoulders, and why they're less desirable?

Square shoulders refers to the guitar body shape. If you take the guitar so the neck is its head, you'll clearly see that dreadnoght-type guitars use to have "square" shoulders, while a typical "spanish" guitar use to have rounded shoulders. About collectability, I suppose the author refers to rounded shoulders variations of the model being made at very limited quantities, therefore their collecting value is higher.

so what does the term "dreadnought" mean in this context - just that square-shouldered shape, or are there other elements that are different as well?

Dreadnought type: "squarer" shape. Martin archetype (sp?)




Jumbo type: Gibson archetype (sp? again) More pronounced bottom curves (like JLo)

As an acoustic instrument, (ie. not amplified) I'd say that shape, size, wood, and every aspect of it would result in differences in sound. But I couldn't tell you more about how these differences would result in actual terms of sound...

Thanks to everyone! Great guitar topics! Great pics! Now that we are into acoustic ones: Does Keith use classic/spanish nylon-strings guitars? From what I know he's using one in 'Almost hear you sigh'. I think 'Lady Jane' is played on one. I don't know. Any guess?

Hey Ms Sssoul. The guitar Keith is playing in the CNIB photo looks like a Gibson J-200 though I have never seen one with a dual pick guard. Tre Cool! Keep 'em coming!

And here's a nice one that I just scanned from my Hawaii '73 Tour program. I think that it may have been taken at the Nicuaragan Benefit the month before but I'm not sure. This is Martin 0018 I believe.

There's no question that Lady Jane was done on a Gibson Hummingbird as was
most of thier acoustic work at that time (mother's little helper, Sittin in a fence, etc....).That a good example of its tone. I should know, I have one
here in my living room. I always prefered Gibson acoustics to MArtins.
Don't ask me why. I just do.
Dylan used a fantastic Gibson acoustic around the same time
called the Nick Lucas Special, a great sounding acoustic.
