I think they'll play these dates and - health allowing - play in 2022 to celebrate 60 years. And I think Charlie would want them to play. Maybe call it a day after that. I just don't think Charlie would even want them to quit because of his death.

I'd also guess this was all discussed and resolved before they even announced Steve Jordan stepping in as a substitute! My experience of seniors is that they know what's coming and are realistic about it

After the final bow, the lights go down and Steve's kit moves back. Charlies moves forward, the drum riser draped in black with a lone spotlight on Charlie's kit.
That would be a moving tribute.
Oh yes. I can imagine how it looks like. And thousands shouting "Charlie, Charlie"...

For me I can’t enjoy a live show without Charlie. He was the heart and soul of the band. Maybe a studio song without him but live no
Yep! And he was "the engine" Ronnie said. Without engine no rolling.

They were going to play without charlie anyway. I don't think this will change the tour.

Ticket sales were very slow, so they may just use this as a way to sale more tickets, do a 5 minutes "tribute" on every show and continue playing the"hits",we will see,l think they will go on with the tour, me l was going to Tampa but l am out, for those that attend have fun......

At the very least the Stones should cancel the tour and weigh their options for next year. There is absolutely no reason to start a tour in a few weeks and celebrate Charlie's passing in this way. Too bad if you have a ticket, get a refund and allow everyone to grieve and reflect.

If you bought a ticket after the announcement of rescheduled dates. You can not get a refund. There are contracts signed that ad up to millions. You just don’t stop a tour like that Yes they have the reasons to do the tour. Even Charlie in his own personal statement wanted them to tour. Geez dude

Yeah.. tough to trust the gossip rags sources, while I believe this is likely, I won't trust it until I hear it from the band.

Hope they do.

From the article they cited in the Sun.
(either the "music insider" has bad grammar or The Sun has bad editors)

"A music insider said: “The band want to make the show a celebration of his life.

"He was like a brother to them but they know he would have hated the thought of them cancelling shows."

“Charlie had given them his blessing to tour without him following his operation, so they will honour his wishes.”

It's been easy for the Stones to say without Charlie, no Stones.

A 'that was then, this is now' thing.

Reality is different. We'll find out. Given how Charlie actually liked to tour, obviously, and asked Jordan to fill in for him... some may not like it but it's understandable that the Stones continue. At least with this tour. Maybe Charlie said something. He has spoken about it before.

After 2021, who knows. We'll find that out also.

Can't imagine what a B-stage visit would look like without Charlie.

Took the opportunities to get close to it over the years, primarily excited to also get that close to Charlie.
Once in Vegas, got so close to the plexiglas he had the setlist written on that I was later able to impress a young lady usher. She challenged me that there was no way I was going to get by her to get the floor as I told her I was going to do.
I proved it to her on the way back up to the seat near the end of the show, one by being on my way up.. and.. telling her which songs were coming next (easier to do in modern times) and we both danced to the last couple songs in the aisle cool smiley

Perhaps this would be the time and place to do the rumored "tribute" to him.
Just the three of them.. on the B stage.

That's a reasonable way to look at it. After all these years... it's about the songs more than anything. The songs are why the people keep going and the money keeps coming in. The part that Charlie was stunned by - the 'why?' of it - it's the songs.

Which people can listen to anytime via the records... yet, they keep going to see them live. Band members have died: Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Bobby Keys.

Some have quit. Some were almost replaced.

Onward.

Easier said than done. Time will tell.

People who say things like "Charlie would want them to continue" sound like they don't know Charlie Watts.

Obviously Charlie's response would be typically direct: "I haven't really thought about it, I'm just a drummer. I can't believe people still want to come and see us anyway. They should do what they want. I won't be here to care will I?"

It's not like he would be cheering them on from his hospital bed to continue the tour.

The music of the Rolling Stones will continue on in some fashion until it's physically impossible for Mick and Keith to do it.

Clearly this is the plan. Only COVID could stop it and that isn't controllable by them.

I'm curious if Charlie's passing will play a role in ticket sales.
So far, every current show has a LOT of unsold seats.

Would this week's devastating news "help" ticket sales with the sudden reality that this is the (very very likely) final us tour?

or would it hurt sales by people who dont want to see a 3-piece Stones?

Or will it not move the needle one way or the other?

I am genuinely curious...

It is very telling that sales are lagging with COVID-19 and high prices and now the loss of Charlie Watts .

Yet the band is on a guarantee...the promoters bear the risk for poor ticket sales.

Not great news as it pertains to touring in a bubble.

I am still going. I am vaccinated and will wear a mask but I am still going.

This is the band I love and have spent decades following.

One day we won't have the chance to say this.

And it sure is a better gig than anything else out there.

The tour is continuing as scheduled. Chuck Leavell posted today on facebook the original tour announcement. This is his way of letting fans know the tour is still going on as scheduled. If there was any doubt, he wouldn't have made the post. [www.facebook.com]

smileys with beer

Lot of tickets left to sell at most of the venues.
Hoping this translates into more LD's and potentially a buyers market day of show.

At this point, if the stadiums are less than full, I don't think the boys will care, as they likely have guarantees.
Get it done regardless I would think is their thinking.

A half-filled stadium with less "casual fans" would work fine by me.
