Tony retires after cancellation of 2021 tour due to COVID. Mind you, he is 95.

The family wants him to keep touring at 95, six years into Alzheimer's, but his doctors have prevailed, thank god. When I saw the story I thought of Mick, 20 years from now. From what I know of his family, I don't see them doing this.

By the way, there was nothing that said that Covid had anything to do with the cancellations. It was his age and condition, as the article says. You made up "due to COVID," no?

I think I read the ditched the tour due to COVID but if I'm wrong mea culpa.

Most of the articles I've seen mention the long break due to covid as a big factor.

Yeah, thanks Mr. DDDD. I did think I read that but at age 95 you had to think the retirement was imminent.

Sad that they couldn't do their desired 'finale' tour. Saw him 9 or 10 years ago. Absolutely fantastic.

You're thanking him for confirming you were wrong to say that the tour was cancelled due to covid, rather than that the tour, which had been delayed due to covid, was cancelled due to Bennett's worsening physical condition and his manager/son's fear that, after the pandemic delay, it was such that he would fall or something after they pushed him on stage.

I wouldn't say beating...

Nice way to respond to a (perceived) error. Discussion shoulda ended there imo.

As pointed out, many articles listed covid as a factor,even in the header.
And indeed it was, just not in the way people who just read a headline or assume things would take it. Not on you.
But great mic drops, kind of a shame they'll get deleted.

I took my mom to see Tony Bennett over 20 years ago as she was a huge fan, and he was very OLD even back then, but I was glad I was able to see him and my mom loved it.
Whether his tour was canceled due to Covid, Alzheimers, or whatever - no denying good old Tony was very, very old at 95. And based on what his son said - "he gets tired" and "we don't want him to fall on stage", etc. -
seems the family were well aware of his deteriorating condition and had good reason to put an end to the tour. Sad, but he had a positively great and very lengthy career, so hats off to him.

COVID was a part of his, or whoever's, decision for no more touring. "As a result."

One can not be so flip to say Tony Bennett cancelled his tour because he's old. COVID plays a huge part. Tony was very likely told ABC about it, how it would involve ABC and affect ABC... because his plans were to keep going through the agreed deal.

So dumb.

I wasn't sure whether I was wrong or not so pre-emptively apologized. I've seen so many cancellations due to COVID I figured maybe I just made an incorrect leap of logic. As for the mic drops, sometimes people just want to try to eviscerate you...so you save those for them!

Not sure if the subject of how the whole of The Rolling Stones entourage are going to keep Covid infections well away from 'The Rolling Stones Bubble', so to speak.

It's not going to be Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Steve all on their lonesome all the time.

I'm confident Team Rolling Stones will have it all planned as soon as the rehearsals get underway.

As we have seen with other bands and performers, just one infection in the Camp can cause a gig postponement/cancellation or even a whole Tour.

It's not gonna happen with The Rolling Stones I'm sure.

Their team have probably done all their homework as to what to do, and what not to do.

Time is not on their side when it comes to touring, and the Tour of USA must go ahead as UK and Europe will probably not happen if it doesn't.

My glass is definitely half full when it comes to The Rolling Stones fulfilling the contract, hopefully without any more cancellations/postponements.

Tend to agree, and glad I have one fairly early (Nashville) but-

They call it a "wave" for a reason, could very well turnout that the November shows are actually safer in terms of spread. But- if they end up cancelling after a half dozen shows, we won't find that out, so early is better no matter what I guess.

Vaxxes are way up, boosters are on the horizon, if they have to cancel shows, I hope they do it individually based on the location, as opposed to scrapping the whole tour.

Anyone make a case for best venue other than the two newest ones?

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood would seem to be the favorites, but when you consider all the factors- location, size, ambiance, the city, the weather, transportation/lodging options, etc.. maybe not.

Both new stadiums look like something from outer space, both hi-tech with state of the art technology. Both stunning, but I'm thinking SoFi with a construction cost of $5 Billion vs Allegiant's nearly $2 Billion price tag, makes SoFi the one to beat. But- Allegiant may win best venue just based on the location.. easy walk from the strip, many things to do in town etc.

Any other contenders??

SoFi has all the cool tech, state of the art video board, and it's located across the street from the Fabulous Forum where the Sones have played many memorable shows, but I give the win to Allegiant as they have the Al Davis Memorial Torch!

You will appreciate that warm weather in LA or Vegas come time for these shows. Other places are liable to be freezing cold and/or raining.

I would base the best on either intimacy, which isn't going to happen, or ability to get good seats. Then the weather if the gig is outdoors. The rest is pretty much icing on the cake. Digi porn as it were.

A bit of a wild card is the Circuit of the Americas racetrack in Austin.

Can see the venue being excellent for some. A variety of good seats/bleachers and even a Golden Circle up front, and plenty of interesting areas, entertainment, etc set up around the grounds including camping options.

Austin is also one of the coolest cities to visit. Scheduled now as the closer, further adding to the appeal.
But with the track way outside of town, very limited transportation options, along with the amount of walking and volume of people etc.,
potentially makes it a much bigger commitment and pain in the.. imo.
Have tix in hand and still not certain I'll make this one.

In Austin they are going to be in that "Super Stage" area on the map? Any idea what the capacity is going to be there? Because you are right: Austin is a totally kool city, and that with camping and all looks to be a nice adventure. If it comes down to it and you decide you cannot go, send me an email and maybe I could take your ticket off your hands! Otherwise, I would encourage you to go, could well be the most laid back of any of the show in this run.

Winner!!

Nissan Stadium in Nashville makes the top tier for me.

Walking distance to perhaps the coolest city on the tour.
Open air, but the sight lines from the seats for the stadium built in the nineties makes this a much better venue from the field than the stands imo.

I’ve traveled to Austin for F1 race several times; agree that it should be a good weekend so long as it stays dry and not too cold.

COTA rarely provides official information on capacity for the Formula 1 race, so I wouldn’t expect them to provide figures for Stones show. F1 capacity is listed around 120,000, so I’d guess 60,000-70,000, give or take.

(Note that the map in this string may be “aspirational” at best; I’m not sure I’d describe that collection pond out by Lot F as adequate for “fishing and boating” for example. The cart track by Lot A can be fun, though…)

We usually drive and park in Lot F as we don’t stay downtown. Did take the shuttle one year (2015?) when Austin received about 10 inches of rain before the race. Parking lots were closed due to mud so shuttle was only way to get to COTA. Yes, it required a lot of patience…then again, after 48 hours or so of rain, we were so happy to get out of hotel and watch the race we really didn’t care. I’ve heard after the concerts the traffic out can be brutal so shuttle is likely best choice.

We were at Desert Trip too…weekend #2…no camping though.
