I quite enjoyed Shine A Light.
She Was Hot was fun.
I didn't notice any scenes where Keith's playing didn't match up to the music.
I'll have to look for it.

Christina Aguilera is great on Live With Me.

Totally agree. For once the guest actually knew the song and rehearsed it.
And she nails it.

Last summer there was an outside showing of the film on a beautiful summer night. Big screen, warm night and a cold beer. Seemed like a perfect setting to watch the movie after a long while and see if its gotten any better after all these years. Unfortunately not. The dynamic mix is unbearable and it really wasn’t the band’s best night. Usually I don’t like the idea of overdubbing concert films and albums but I wish they’d done it this time. Heavily.
The best part of SAL is that Keith had shaven his moustache.
Was it in Vantaa Finland? Cause i was there.

In my opinion it didn't age well at all. Every performance filmed from then on eclipses it one way or another (take Glastonbury, which isn't even an official release) The 'dynamic' mix would make any show an exhausting listening experience, and in that particular phase the guitar department was so sloppy, it's really painful to get that shoved right in your face. Then there's Keiths face which looks frightening, frail and bloated at the same time. He actually looks younger now which reminds me of a Dylan lyric. Embarrassing also the clueless blondes in the front row who seem to have extra lighting on them, making the fans behind them disappear optically. The contrived drama about "How can we find out WHAT SONGS they're going to play? It doen't have to be in order" Then there's Hillary Clinton "Hey Mom, the Rolling Stones have been waiting FOR YOU" which is all you need to know about her, as we know now. Maximum cringe. I could go on but I shouldn't

Scorcese most overrated filmmaker ever.

I mean anything Stones that's just not a regular album or concert is already at a disadvantage to those of us who just want to enjoy their music.

And The Irishman - total garbage few would force themselves to sit thru if they didn't see his name attached.

Most overrated?! Last Waltz, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, etc.

Maybe its Scorsese warped sense of humour
adding story line ta Shine and thinking its funny....
He did the same sorta shit to the recent Dylan
Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese .....

All though it does say Story in title
so I guess thats what we got ... A story ......

No, I enjoyed it, especially Sympathy. I do think however that it might have been even better/more interesting if Martin Scorsese had been given 100% free reign with the setlist as he wanted but was apparently denied.
Then it would have been more of a train wreck . Hollywood trying to create drama to film , instead of getting out of the way and watching the Stones go about there job of making music live . Terrible experiment that failed and was miserable .

Sure Rambler, but most of the excitement is gone. They do their nostalgia act pretty well though. And the audience can't be wrong.
Don't want to get personal here but can it also be a bit that it's your excitement towards the band that has faded a bit? I mean it's reasonable if you have seen them so many times over the years, playing almost the same songs every time, that going to a Stones concert kinda becomes a routine and doesn't spark you anymore. It a bit like with a long marriage. Of course you can blame on them that they just repeat themselves at the shows over and over again. But that's just what it is since 1989. They do what they do over and over again but I think they still do it really well.

Very well put.....I personally think it would have worked as a straight concert film without the Marty touches. AS for the blondes, I don't mind at all
Fake, Fake , Fake , Do you think Bruce aka Da BOSS would do this ? No integrity what so ever !

I haven't seen SaL. I watched a few moments of a few songs a few years back, and what I saw did not motivate me to watch any more.

Bruce's Mom , probably knows her sons music and has followed his career . Do you think the "Hot Blondes" knows a Stones song or two ? That's the point -fake is fake .If a product is good why the need to spruce it up ? Who are you trying to sell the product to ?

I have never seen a worse Keith moment than when he comes in for a solo when they do Loving Cup with Jack White. Keith had absolutely nothing. I don't know why he even bothering... completely embarrassing. I wonder what Jack White was thinking in that moment.

"You'll be studying history and you'll be down the gym. And I'll be down the pub, probably playing pool and drinking."

And Keith was thinking who’s this schmuck with white face makeup and girly voice. And why is onstage with us. He must of won a contest or something.

Geez. Reading through this thread I am debating whether this is worth taking a look at as I have never seen it. Not a big Scorsese fan. I think Goodfellas was the last movie of his I watched. Regarding the Stones, I prefer a fairly straight concert film with some bits and pieces of the band talking about the band. Is there such a thing?

The fake drama from Scorsese is enough of a reason to avoid it, yet alone the shabby performance by the Stones.

I saw this movie in an IMAX theatre with a screen that is huge.

There were parts cringeworthy.

Overall the movie did not do much for me.

I have a CD someone gave me I have never listened to it I guess I should play it sometime.

Kind of. Sticky Fingers Live At Fonda Theatre 2015.
Like you said a concert with talking from the band members in between the songs.

But that one is generally hated too. Because the concert is incomplete, runs in the wrong order, and they are talking between the songs winking smiley.

You could make your own Director's Cut via Video-Editing-Software, taking away all unnecessary scenes and replacing the movie's dynamic Audio-Mix by the CD-Soundtrack. It's a bit of work, but feasible.

Excellent idea, it makes the move so much more enjoyable! and 20-30 minutes shorter. Just Connection is interrupted with interviews in the middle, shame about that.

I've replaced the interviews with other (historic) footage from SAL - the audio track came from the CD anyway.
