Slade Alive and I didn't see Deep Purple Live in Japan

Not a bad list as those things go. HOWEVER - I assumed that Ya Ya’s wasn’t on there because it was released in the 60s. Not so - just checked -although it was recorded in ‘69, it came out in Sept. of 1970.
AND I looked at the list again, which does give that caveat - needs to be recorded and released in the 70s. Nevermind.

Jethro Tull : "Bursting Out" (1978)

No "Captured Live" by Johnny Winter, no "Love You Live". At least the third side with the El Mocambo gig section is worth to be noted here.

No J Geils Band "Full House" or "Blow your face out" either

and look what's on their. #48, "Having Fun with Elvis on Stage". It's a talking only album. No music.

I got it as a gift from my 'asleep at the wheel' parents some time after it came out.

The stupidest album ever, full of Elvis between song banter. The worst.

And Love You Live can't make it on?

ANY other live album released in the 70s is better than this.

J Geils Band? Really? Maybe being a Brit doesn't help me appreciate them. I saw them support the Stones at Wembley Stadium in '82 and i thought they were horrible. They played an encore, although I didn't see anyone cheer for one. The first act, Black Uhuru were much more enjoyable, as was waiting for Columbus, (Little Feat live) which got played over the PA between acts. If someone can explain J gels to me I'm all ears

Maybe J. Geils is an American experience. (Although I'll bet there's more European fans than you think). They are a hard rocking r&b group that seems the culmination of American Garage Rock. Great front man. Great songs. That phenomenal live album came out of nowhere. Kind of like Frampton Comes Alive, but better.

Metallic KO is not even the best live stooges album! Nevermind one of the 70s best.
The Ike & Tina Turner record deserves to be higher, a great live document.

If they didn't have Black Uhuru's Tear It Up in there, they are bonkers.

J Geils Band had a couple great songs but generally their overall albums did not do much for me either. I thought they were pretty dynamic the couple times I saw them live though.

I wish they'd just kept the list to rock/folk, because once you expand to country, pop artists, etc., there's just no way you can do much with 50 selections. Each style/genre/category probably has 50 best live albums from the '70's.

Genesis - "Seconds Out" comes to my mind
Deep Purple - "Made in Japan"

and many more...

"Sanctuary" is a very good album IMHO.

If Full House and Ya-Ya's are missing, the list is worthless.
