"How the Stones Made Beggars Banquet" By Jimmy Miller
Date: June 28, 2021 18:43

Another great video from the Yesterday's Papers youtube channel.

"February, 1969.
Producer Jimmy Miller explains how the album "Beggars Banquet" was made."

video: [youtu.be]

Jimmy Miller was amazing for a long while. Got his big rep producing Traffic. Then was poached by Jagger and Company. My bet is that Jagger did *all* the talking with JM to get him in, working with The Stones.

Thanks for video. Gonna watch it.

Correct. That's what Jimmy Miller says in the video. Jagger was the one who called him and asked hinm to produce "Beggars Banquet" because he liked what he did with Traffic.

I heard he was a mess when he produced Bomber for Motörhead. That heroin will mess you up.

Yeah, pretty dissapointing. Apart from the work he did with the Stones, his productions for Traffic, Spencer Davis Group and Spooky Tooth are excellent, though. Spooky Tooth's second album "Spooky Two" is actually one of my all-time favourite albums and the production is 100% Jimmy Miller. Definitely a must have for anyone who loves Miller's work with the Stones. Very bluesy and very organic sound with the focus on the rhythm.

Many thanks for the link.

Apologies if previously posted but this is a reminiscence by Jimmy's sister about her brother:

Not that I have a problem with pigs, I understand they are very clean animals.

Johnny Thunders was great but at the time he did those demos with Jimmy Miller, they were both in pretty bad shape.

When you see some names appearing in a hread chat there is only one advice:
You better run, run, run. To another thread.
This here for instance is about JM producing one of the best Stones album of all times. And what happened?
After 3 posts we land at Johnny Thunder is a pig, heroin, Motorhead...
This site was, is and will always be about fun and passion.
And not a garbage can for grumpy old man.

I see what you mean, but in fairness Jimmy did produce both Thunders and Mötorhead - so whether we like it or not - those releases are part of his career as a producer.

When that is said, Beggars Banquet is perfection - and my favourite Stones album thumbs up

And the Motorhead albums are classic stuff too.

Thanks for that video link.

Motörhead’s and Overkill and Bomber records are all-time classic genre-defining New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. Loved them as a kid, and still love them now.

Not to split hairs, but I believe the thread made it five or six posts without the diversion.

Also, thank you for clarifying what this site is "about".

Oh, and just because someone invokes the image of a pig (me) in describing someone's music, that doesn't mean anyone is calling the artist a "pig". Again, a small difference maybe in your mind, but certainly not in mine.

Perhaps English is not your first language and in that case I understand the confusion. Otherwise, perhaps a short course on reading comprehension is in order.

Back to the subject ...
I sort of expected a detailed technical (producer) type of story, but it doesn't really say much to get exited about. Very supervisial. A great album like BB deserves more ...
Maybe a next still not discovered story ...

I think that differences of opinion make this site interesting and while we sometimes get 'riled up' for whatever reason (people don't agree with you, who cares?), when it gets to calling one another names the integrity of the discussion completely breaks down.

Jimmy Miller produced this single in 1967/68. Give it a listen. Killer soul song with an amazing groove:

Tune it all out and just put the original vinyl of Beggars on the turntable. It don't get better than that.

Thats hard to argue with, shadooby, but the RSVP version, second one I think, makes those songs JUMP right out of your speakers.
