I thought this was probably the case. I've recently moved back to London and I had SFR as somewhere to pay a visit to purely for the nostalgia, having visited a few times in the past, including 2006 with my Dad before one of the Twickenham shows. Agree that the food was fine, but nothing special. What made it was the Stones memorabilia, and for a while after the ABB tour they seemed to have the DVDs from 'The Biggest Bang' on permanent rotation. So it was pretty cool to pop in for a beer and a burger and watch some of the Copacabana show on the TV screens.

A shame that it is permanently closed, but not surprising.

SFR was basically a burger restaurant. The bonus was the Stones merchandise on the walls, even in the washrooms/toilets. Also the many fans and friends you could meet in SFR during Stones related shows and tours in London at the time of course. I haven't been there in ages, there is absolutely nothing I can eat there. I think Bill Wyman sold the place some years ago. Don't know if the new owners lease the merchandise, or if it was sold too.

Apparently he sold it in the summer of 2000 "to Brian Stein, owner of the Maxwell's chain of restaurants."

Sad to see it go, but I'm glad I went there all 3 times when I was in London, Loved the Stonsy decor and friendly atmosphere, and the bartenders always gave me "a good pour" with the wine. It really bothers me to get a glass half full or even less, but they filled it to the brim!

We used to have a Hard Rock at Universal Studios in Hollywood. I wondered up to a top floor and lo and behold, behind glass but close, there was a handwritten response letter from Brian Jones to a fan.

Bill has had nothing to do with it since the summer of 2000. There are similar things out there where the originator has nothing to do with something anymore, it's just a name.

Glad I had a chance to experience it in May 2018. The food was mediocre at best, but the vibe and company was excellent.

Perhaps partially true, although others have said he bought back in.

Regardless, the memorabilia, undoubtably part of the draw, at least for many here, is hardly "nothing to do with".
Whether he leased it to the new owners, or maintained a cut of the profits etc., who knows, but I doubt it was charity or a place to hang his gold records. He auctioned most (all?) of that at last years Juilen's auction. Up till then, his name and memorabilia were still putting customers in seats.

I think that was at the bar on the top floor of the Peninsula where the band was staying-- you, me, my wife, and two friends of yours, and Daryl nearby. I think it may have been you who nearly was baptized. Correct me if I am wrong.

Could call it "Beggars Banquet" with all the standards..
Keith's Sheperd's Pie, Charlie's Chicken Drumsticks, Ronnie's Non-Alcoholic beverages, Mick's Endurance Shakes, Goats Head Soup etc.

With a special Stones Red Carnaby Menu that only offers one item at a time, sells more orders than product, and you have to wait months to eat it.
