do any of the Rolling Stones play golf?

I hope not. Such a silly, environmentally-destructive sport.

They are all members of the Royal and Ancient St. Andrews Golf Club in Scotland

Looking at Keith's stance and grip on the club, there was certainly a future in pro golf for him...not. You must wonder about that "putting green" they are standing on. I've seen better looking greens at miniature golf courses. Mick's expression seems to say, "They woke me up for this?"

Thanks guys. I'm never listening to the Stones again.

Just kidding. If that's how they get their rocks off, so be it.

None of them seem like early birds. Dean Martin, an avid golfer, would leave Sinatra's hotel parties early so he could get up with the sunrise to golf. (In other words his drunk act was a scam).

Didn’t Ian Stewart famously choose hotels near golf courses

Strange though. When you earn that much money you usually end up playing golf whether you like it or not...

This picture was taken at an actual golf course in Scotland, I believe. Early 1965.

The picture was taken at an actual golf course, during their mini tour of Scotland in early 1965.

Keith's shoes would be pretty useless if not painful on the links.

If any of them are golfers, they would be playing a game quintessentially English, Scottish.

Having said that, I don't think I've ever heard anything about any of them playing the game. Tennis, yes, there are pics of them playing.

Football and cricket are the main sports interests with Mick and Charlie as far as I know.
Not sure if Ronnie and Keith have favourite sports to watch live or on TV.

Not heard of The Stones in the past or present, participating in any sport, but in their younger days they were so busy making music and playing live gigs.

Micks' Dad was a teacher, with his main subject as Sport I believe.

I think Mick was in this TV programme through something to do with his Dad.

I can remember 'Seeing Sport' on TV in the early 60's, as it was a must see between 5-6pm early evening for us kids who loved sport.smileys with beer

That's a great pic, especially with Charlie's knickerbockers, sweater and matching socks. Looks like something out of the 1920 or 30s in terms of golf fashion. I can imagine him wearing something like this, rather dapper it seems to me.

It's the Rolling Stones not the rolling golf balls… beside that I could only imagine Jagger playing golf, maybe Charlie, but certainly not Keith or Ronnie

"Keith Richards once shot a golf ball with his pistol –
after the unwanted ball had landed in his breakfast,
according to a new autobiography.

Richards apparently got trigger-happy while on tour with
The Rolling Stones in the 1990s, when the band were staying
at a hotel with an adjoining golf course. The band’s sax
player Bobby Keys claims to have caused the incident in
his new autobiography Every Day Is Saturday Night.

Keys writes: “When I hit my ball it hooked into the trees,
ricocheted – and landed smack dab in the middle of his
breakfast. So he shot it. He’s standing there on his patio
with a pistol in his hand and smoke coming out of the muzzle.
He was holding this smoking shell that used to be my golf ball.
He said: ‘That’s a ten-stroke @#$%& penalty, and if you ever
do it again I’ll do the same to you! You ruined my @#$%&
breakfast!. He was getting ready to eat his eggs Benedict.”

I remember a Bobby Keys quote, where he said
something like "once we had the tongues on
our balls, nowadays there is a tongue on golf balls".

What country was this supposedly in?

B/c if it was the US in the 1990s, I'm calling BS...

this would presumably have happened at an extremely expensive hotel w/ a golf course (aka "Country Club")

....and KR fires a gun?

.....and nobody calls the police or reports anything? Not a peep in the press?

maybe in the 1970s....highly unlikely in the 1990s at the types of places the Stones stay(ed) at

The US is a mess when it comes to guns, but people call the police when they hear them at places like the Beverly Hills Snoborium Country Club and MoneyTree Gardens for the SuperRich....

that being said, I do like the picture of Keith putting....reminds me of this one:

Regarding the artnet photo, I believe playing baseball, not golf, is what Cuba was, maybe still is, noted for. If I remember right, major league baseball worked with the Cuban government to have its players come to the United States and join major league teams.

In the beginning of the Stones, Stu was the driver and he always booked the hotel rooms in golf resorts so he could get a game in. Stu loved golf and played every chance he could. Since the band was there too they probably all played in the early years.

I scanned the 1994-1999 years of the [timeisonourside.com] chronical and not one word of this - unless I missed it.
