There are many as I've been to hundreds. For a long period I actually used to get paid to go to shows as part of my job as a music buyer & Billboard sales reporter. If I had to pick 1 I'd have to go with David Bowie/Nine Inch Nails on the Outside tour in 1995. It was a very unique show. NIN came out & did a fantastic set & were slowly replaced by Bowie's band so it was 1 long set. Bowie was amazing. Perhaps I'll put more down later as I've seen a lot of awesome shows over the years. This one stands out in my mind though.

so many great Iggy Pop shows over the years and the great Nick Cave shows more recently.

social distortion shows were terrific last year.

for me the best shows come from those who have paid their dues and perform like their life is at state.

my best stones show was also my first...buffalo 81

Wow!

I made a 7 hour round trip one Monday night in 2008 to see your dad.
It was worth the shitty Tuesday at work, and then some. The glow lasted for a good week.

Glad you are here.

Charles, after that show I kept flying back from Calif to STL and I saw you and your sister with your Dad play that room many times. As he got older you guys helped him put on a great show, and I remember some songs he played from the couch in that little room just off stage…and when his muscle memory kicked in and he hit a lick like only Chuck could, it was magic.

Hope you’re well, thanks for the memories!

John

One to add to the list:
1976 White Sox Park
Derringer
Jeff Beck w/Jan Hammar
Aerosmith

The stadium started on fire when Beck was playing- literally- during his Set..

“The unassuming Jeff Beck eventually noticed the chaos in the far reaches of the stadium. "Are we gonna let this fire bother us?", Beck asked the huge crowd. "@#$%& the fire!", the moody guitarist responded to his own inquiry. While Jeff Beck continued to perform, rock fans in the cheap seats scrambled for safety. Firemen and police fought the blaze as best they could, considering the circumstances. A few minutes later, Beck's band was ushered from the stage for safety precautions.”

[youtu.be] It’s at the end …

It was the hottest (temperature) concert I’ve ever attended and Aerosmith was great

Since I've seen shows since 1969 (Fanny was the headliner!), I'll go opposite. Out of perhaps 200 shows and maybe 140 groups, I'll consider 198 of them great.

The WORST were simply disappointing, unfortunately very memorable, and the only two times I felt like my money was stolen.

- George Harrison 1974 (poor performance, no voice, snafus on stage)
- Ted Nugent 2000's; I walked out furious after what he did 30 minutes in (I won't write about it was)

Going to mention two shows that were absolute surprises, both in a small venue. Joe Jackson, 1982. And Devo, 1982. Also, Dylan theater show in '07. Dylan Petty tour was great, too. But most of the shows I've gone to are worth it.

Other than many Stones shows, my stand outs were probably Rory Gallagher on a few occasions and ...oddly perhaps....Donovan at the Crucible Theatre in the early 70s.

[Skynyrd were always a good turn too ...with fondest memories, as with Rory, being of shows at Sheffield City hall in the 70s.]

Call me a freak but Ministry in 92 then in 2006 are among the best gigs I ever attended.
Rammstein in 2005 was another great one as, song after song you knew you were witnessing something special in the making.

Btw...I saw Jeff Beck at the Paris Cigale in 93 for the opening of his "rockabilly" world tour (which was aborted after this very gig iirc). It was humongously loud (think the Straycats playing on Slayer's P.A.) and it left me kinda "meh".

Chuck Berry Hail Hail Rock & Roll Shows St. Louis - 1986
Van Morrison - Shoreline Amphitheater - 1998
David Bowie Sound & Vision tour St. Louis - 1990

Rolling Stones St. Louis - 1981
Pretenders St. Louis - 1998
Beach Boys (w/all 3 Wilson's) St. Louis - 1983
Hall & Oates St. Louis - 1981
Jethro Tull St. Louis- 1996
ELP St. Louis - 1997
Yes Union Tour St. Louis - 1991

Marshall Tucker Band (w/Toy Caldwell) St. Louis - 1982
Allman Brothers St. Louis - 1989
Fleetwood Mac Mirage Tour St. Louis - 1987
Jerry Lee Lewis Memphis - 2007

Waylon Jennings St. Louis 1988
Soundgarden Memphis - 2017
BB King, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Lonnie Brooks St. Louis - 1993

That's good for starters!

I only mention Jethro Tull and Hall & Oates because I didn't like either band and was dreading having to sit through them as openers (JT for ELP, J&O for ELP), but was blown away at how good they were and left as a fan of both.

Yeah they were coming to my hometown of St. Louis 2 weeks after that at a festival, I told my kid to get tickets, then of course we know what happened; they canceled the whole festival as they were the headliners.

The Beach Boys - 50th Anniversary tour. RAH, London. September 2012.

Lots more but those are my top five.

Whenever this question comes up the first thing that comes to my mind is: Jimmy Cliff at the Roxy in West Hollywood. In the '80's sometime. The sound was superb. Each song started with that infectious reggae rhythm. By the time all the musicians engaged it sounded like a symphony. Just look at an instrument and you could hear it. Cliff's voice is beautiful. Ronnie and Jo were sitting a table away. They went back stage presumably to visit with the opener, Ian Drury and the Blockheads.

Next would be the Stones at the Forum in 1969. Strong show by Keith. Not the most exciting show (perhaps the lateness of the hour had something to do with it), but I left feeling that I had seen something historic.
