Loud doesn't really do it for me but the loudest show I ever saw was the Clash at Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento. I swear they tried to push the everpresent echo right out the front door by turning everything to 11. Not one of my fave shows by far but my f'in ears hurt for a week after that mess.

Would also have to mention as a fave Squeeze at the Cal Expo Amphitheater. I was riding my bike after work out on the off road bike trail along the river and I heard some familiar song, Pulling Mussels From the Shell or whatever it was called, rode over to the levee and sat there listening for the rest of their set. Was a fun, free evening and really made me appreciate them a lot more than I did.

July 13, 1978 was life changing. Van Halen, Doobie Brothers and the Rolling Stones in the middle of the Some Girls tour. To see a young Eddie Van Halen burn the place down was incredible. The Doobie Brothers were also great - but the Stones were just red hot. Surpassed all of my expectations.

I'll go with Pink Floyd "The Wall" at Nassau.

Dire Straits in 1979 at Georgetown University.

Jeff Beck when he opened with Freeway Jam.

For the Stones show I'll take the 1978 Warner Theatre or the 1981 Fox theatre. There is nothing like seeing them on a smaller stage.

The David Gilmour solo tour in 1984 was also memorable.

I'll keep it to 5

1) Willie Nelson at the Hollywood Bowl, performing the entirety of his 'Stardust' album, with a 20 piece orchestra, followed by his greatest hits. 2018 I think.

2) Allman Brothers, Atlanta, July 1971. Duane Allman's last appearance in Atlanta.

3) Rolling Stones, Anaheim 1999. Keith and Charlie were on fire. Never were again like this.

4) Prince, 1985, Purple Rain Tour. Genius at work.

5) Bruce Springsteen, 1978. Convention Center, Indianapolis. Spirits in the Night indeed. Brought two strippers onstage for blow out version of Tenth Avenue Freeze Out.

Hershey eh. That used to be my home town when I was young. Saw a lot of great shows there in the early seventies.

Went to the Roger Waters DSOM 2006 at Tinley. Saw Stones 2002 at Comiskey, along with Paul at United Center in 2005. Also went to Dylan shows in 2004 but went to the Aragon show.

Just missed the age needed to get into Tom Petty at the Vic in 03. Believe it was 18+ and was 16.

Saw Rage at Lolla in 08 after missing the Alpine show above in 07.

Lots of great bands listed there.

Springsteen, Born In The USA tour, 1984 if I remember the year right, Cap Centre, Largo, Maryland, loud, long and what a night

The David Bromberg Band, Music Instrument Museum, Phoenix, AZ - a wonderful merry go round of Americana, blues, rock'n'roll, all in a 300 seat theater

Johnny Rivers, Celebrity Theater, Phoenix, AZ - many hits but some surprises and great playing

Bruce Springsteen Seeger Sessions Tour, Phoenix, AZ, 2006 if I remember the year right - a small crowd, a 2 and a half hour show, something magical going on musically, my daughter called Springsteen god after the show was over

Marty Stuart and band, Music Instrument Museum, Phoenix - superb band, country/Americana/bluegrass and hot guitar pickin'

Neil Young - Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD - The electric/operatic Greendale tour, acoustic around the time of Keep On Rocking In The Free World

Keith Richards - first solo tour show at DAR Constitution Hall, Washington, D.C., followed by Tower Theater, Philladelphia

These are quick thoughts. Other great gigs come to mind: early Elton John before he became glitter; early Rod Stewart still with the Faces; The Band; the Allman Brothers; Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger on tour together; Joni; Sheryl Crow supporting her second album; the late Johnnie Copeland; Bobby Blue Bland; Hall and Oates; and more. Wow. Hard to pick a best or bests.

I could look for hours going through all the posts here and then trying to find the gigs on youtube, and see what's there.

After I posted about my favourite gigs........ which were all The Rolling Stones, I remembered many other gigs such as Walter Trout at really small venues at Worcester Park Tavern , Sutton Football Club and last time I saw him was at The Astoria in London with The Hamsters and that great guy Carvin Jones, with his pals on bass and drums.
A great show I will always remember.

Another one is Mick Taylor and his band in a very small venue in Budapest back in the 90's.
Also Mick Taylor way back, at Sutton Football Club and also the gig in 2003 when he played at The 100 Club before,or after, the Stones Astoria gig.

Again, on my trip to Vegas many years ago to see The Stones at the MGM Grand, seeing Walter Trout and his band performing at the hotel I was staying in.

The Yardbirds at small venues in S.W. London in the 90's onwards with Detroit John Idan in the lineup.

Met him a few times at The Grey Horse Pub in Kingston when he was just there for the music,which was the great local venue for live music,especially on a Sunday afternoon.

Also I have to say, the really great gig in Twickenham on a Sunday afternoon and evening, as a tribute to Art Wood in March 2007, with his brother Ron and so many great's of music in the U.K. since the 60's,paying their respects and playing to remember Art Wood.

John Cipploina solo with his band. At a small club. He played his scintillating riffs he was known for on "Who Do You Love" and others from Quicksilver.

Wow. Quicksilver Messenger Service gets a mention. One of the major bands to come out of the San Francisco psychedelic era. Nicky Hopkins was a member of the band for a couple of years. They made some really great music.

Quicksilver: I was going to mention seeing them around the Mill Valley area a few times back in the day with Nicky Hopkins on piano. One time in particular in a grove of trees out by Inverness, and another at this little dumpy musicians bar in Mill Valley a couple nights. Mike Bloomfield and Nick Gravanites used to hang out there regularly. Quicksilver were always special though, especially when their singer Dino Valente got out of prison. A lot of people didn't like his style but he sang some great stuff with them.
