O.T. Your best live gigs you have been to.

Your best gig or gigs, or experiences, about going to a Rolling Stones show........or any other Band..........or anyone else. smiling smiley

Got loads of live videos I've taken over the years, but not many on youtube etc.

Off the top of my head it's gotta be the four Stones gigs in Brazil 2016 in Rio, Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre.

Starting beginning of February when I arrived in Rio, to second week in March, when I went back to U.K.

Met so many Stones fans again, and also more new friends from South America and all over the world, for the first time.

The two gigs at The Point in Dublin in September 2003 were also highlights, as the great fans from Ireland got me to the rail a metre or two from Keith, as they were taller than me and I could almost shake hands with Keith at times, but I knew he was busy doing what he does best. smileys with beer

There have been many great and memorable shows in my life, in fact most have been great and memorable for one reason or another.
Here's a short list that comes to mind, in no particular order

- Pink Floyd, The Wall, L.A. Sports Arena, 1980 (twice)
- The Clash, Santa Monica Civic, 1980 (GA up close in the thick of it)
- Stones L.A. Coliseum, 1981 (twice)
- Stones, Vredenburg, Utrecht, and Stockholm Cirkus, 2003 (front center for both)
- Stones w/Mick Taylor, Staples Center #2, 2013
- Jethro Tull, Santa Monica Civic, 1979 (first time ever front row center)
- Bluesbreakers reunion with Mick Taylor, the Roxy, LA, 1982 (front center)
- Bob Dylan at newly renovated Wiltern Theater, 2003 (all three nights in the Pit)
- Stevie Ray Vaughan - Wiltern Theater, 1987
- Jeff Beck w/ ZZ Top, Greek Theater (including Jeff Beck soundcheck) 2014
- ARMS Benefit (w/Clapton, Beck, Page, etc.), 1983
- Neil Young w/Crazy Horse- Universal Ampitheater, 1986
- Us Festival '83 - all 3 days and nights
- Desert Trip '16 - all three days and nights both weekends (Pit wkd. #2)
- Stones - Chicago #2, Santa Clara (Pit), Pasadena, Glendale (Pit), 2019
- The Dillards- Lincoln Jr. High Auditorium some time in the early '80's...bluegrass at it's finest.

And so many more....including some really great Steve Winwood shows...and Johnny Winter shows...and Who shows...

EDIT: Forgot to add the next Stones show I attend which I can predict with almost 100% certainty will be great and memorable...if in fact there is one...

Off the top of my head, the last show in Brazil 2016 at Porto Alegre as it was so differant with the pouring rain, and Ruby Tuesday live as well.

Mick Keith,Ronnie and Sasha got really ,really damp out there, but what a great gig.
Myself and English buddy Paul Boyd, were still drinking and eating with our South American friends ,Cristiano,Marcello and many more, till gone 5a.m.in the morning.
The rain just came down even more after the gig and we were all soaking wet by the time we got to the restaurant, and eventually got back to our hotel about 6a.m.

A really great night with so many Rolling Stones fans.

Ernest Ranglin 80th birthday celebration backed by Vinyl at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco

Nelson Mandella freedom celebration in Oakland and a month later in Kingston JA.

Foundation and Donovan at the Divis (ex-Kennel Club) in SF, two days after the 1989 earthquake.

Alton Ellis backed by Robotiks with Mad Professor Neil Frazer mixing at Slims in SF.

Grateful Dead at the Family Dog at the Beach sometime in the early 70s

Grateful Dead Wall of Sound soundcheck, Cow Palace, SF

Rolling Stones, Oakland Coliseum 1969 with Altamont shortly afterwards.

Bunny Wailers at Merritt college I think it was, 1989 or so.

Gregory Isaacs at Berkeley Community Theatre around 83 or so.

Jaco Pastorius benefit show at Omni disco in Oakland, CA, with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Bob Weir, Kenny Gradney and Richie Hayward from Little Feat, Carlos Santana and I forget who all else.

Burning Spear at the Stone, SF

So many shows at the Keystone family of clubs in the bay area, cannot even remember them all.

The original (English) beat at the Century Theatre on Market St SF, normally a strip joint and porn flick palace.

The Who and Iron Butterfly at Memorial Auditorium Sacramento in about 68

The Cure also at Memorial Auditorium some many years later.

Stones at Memorial Aud 65 and 66

plenty more where those came from.

Prince Aftershow London 2007, the concert of my life. Started at 2.30 in the night and went on till 5.30 in the morning. Unbelievable, I still have goosebumps all over thinking back. There have been maybe 200-300 people and I was standing right next to him and Marceo, he was nothing but a genius..
I have seen hundreds of concerts over the last 40 years but nothing comes close.

I've seen the Stones a few times.

I've seen The Cult more.

The 1989 Stones show I saw was incredible.

VOODOO tour? No. Stones by numbers boring.

The Cult's ELECTRIC 13 tour was insane.

The five that really stand out in my mind, either because of the greatness of the performances, or just because I remember having had a really good time are:

The Who at Madison Square Garden (1979)
Pink Floyd at Yankee Stadium (1994)
Rolling Stones at Pontiac Silverdome (1997)
Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at The Palace of Auburn Hills (1998)
Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood in Columbus, Ohio (2009)

There's a bunch of others that I remember fondly, either for personal reasons (like getting to play a kazoo solo at an Ian Anderson solo concert) or because I witnessed something rare and unusual (like seeing 3 members of The Velvet Underground performing together), but the five I listed above are always the ones that come to mind when I think of the "best" concerts I've ever been to.

Jealous of those who saw bands in their prime in the 60’s and 70’s. Born in 1978, my first show was in 1994.

Here is my first and other favorites:

Pearl Jam. Murphy Center. Murfreesboro, TN. 3/26/94 (Only live PJ performance of Dock of the Bay [w/ Cropper]. Only show ever I thought I was going to be crushed or swallowed up by the crowd. Survival mode. Packed like sardines. It’s on YouTube. Crowd moving in waves. Frightening)

Foo Fighters. Disc Exchange. Knoxville, TN. 4/11/00 (Last minute, free record store show. Covered Pink Floyd’s Have a Cigar. Cool setlist. Check it out)

Tool. Tabernacle. Atlanta. 5/15/01 (Sold out in less than 3 minutes back when you had to by tickets in person. First Tool show in a while. Live debut of most of Lateralus, which was released this day)

Bob Dylan. Ryman. Nashville. 9/20/07 (Only time he ever played Outlaw Blues, and he played it with Jack White)

GNR. Bridgestone. Nashville. 12/4/11 (Classic Axl, late af. Great show, though. Played Civil War for the first time in 14 years)

Roger Waters. Bridgestone. Nashville. 6/19/12 (Wall tour. Saw with dad)

Paul McCartney. Bridgestone. Nashville. 10/16/14 (Saw with mom)

Foo Fighters. Ryman. 10/31/14 (Halloween show with band in King Diamond makeup. Covered War Pigs. Debut of Congregation- written and recorded in Nashville for Sonic Hwy)

Stones. LP Field (now Nissan Stadium), Nashville. 6/17/15 (First Stones show)

Alice In Chains. Ryman. 8/17/15 (Front row. Jerry Cantrell saw me singing Brother, smiled and tossed me a pick. One of the coolest/nicest guys in rock. One of my guitar heroes)

Neil Young. Ascend Amphitheater. Nashville. 4/28/16

Soundgarden. Beale St. Music Fest. Memphis. 5/7/17 (Ten days before Chris Cornell’s death)

Stones. FedEx Field. Landover, MD. 7/3/19 (Mercy, Mercy for the first time in 50 years)

Band you’ve never heard of: Stallion. The Boro (dive bar). Murfreesboro, TN. Date unknown (Singer/guitarist played like a man possessed. Most electrifying live show I’ve seen. It was unreal)

Rolling Stones, LA Forum 1969. Probably the best concert I’ve ever attended

The Beatles Dodger Stadium 1966. Only because it was the Beatles.

Cream and Deep Purple, LA Forum 1968

Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull, San Bernardino 1969. Recently found a bootleg.

Newport ‘69, Northridge, California. A 3-day festival. I remember seeing Jimi Hendrix, Booker T & The MG’s, Johnny Winter, Tull, Creedence, Three Dog Night, Chambers Brothers, and many more. Lots of fun.

Ten Years After, Quicksilver Messenger Service, LA 1970

Too many more to mention . . .

Rolling Stones play in a different league. For purely sentimental reasons, even their worst concert is still better than the best of the rest.

On my book, Milano 2003 is by far the wildest Stones concert experience I've had!

As for the others, I've been lucky to see a huge number of wonderful concerts. Maily in Milano.

Caetano Veloso Gilberto Gil - Villa Arconati 2015

Love Gilberto Gil. And Veloso is a legend. The two together was a dream come true.

Cat Power - Villa Arconati 2008

Did it ever happen to you to fall in love with the music AND the artist at the same time?

Well, that night it happened to me!

Black Crowes Hammerstein Ballroom NY 2005

Huge Crowes fan and huge Marc Ford fan. Was lucky to get to see them in this special place in NY. Simply great. And they covered Torn and Frayed!!

John Williams - Teatro Dal Verme Milano 2003

John Williams was into African music at the time. Remember one song in particular. A sort of Maggot Brain with African percussions. Up there with the best performances I've ever witnessed!

MAnu Chao - Università Statale Milano 2001

Improvisated gig. A short acoustic set played for a very small audience. I've been a fan of MAnu Chao ever since!

Iggy Pop - Alacatraz Milano 1999

Encores lasted more than the concert itself. Over 1 hour of Iggy Pop / Stooges greatest hits. More or less 800 people in the room. Most of them were dancing on the stage during the enocres!

To date, the loudest concert I've ever been to!

Aleksandar Serdar - Conservatorio 1999

Young pianist from Serbia. Last minute replacement of a big name that had to play that night.
Usually in these cases most of the crowd leave the house after the first set.
No early exits this time!

One of the longest standing ovations I've seen tributed to a rookie!

Andy Summers - Scimmie 1998

I am a huge fan of the police and andy summers in particular. Just imagine seeing him in a small place, maybe not more than 20 people in the house!

The Cult - City Square 1994

Second time I saw the cult live. First time was not impressed. This time they had a second guitartist to help, and they delivered!!

Pearl Jam City Square 1992

Basically Ten, their firts record, live, in a small club packed with models ...

Tin Machine - Smeraldo 1991

David Bowies intellectual punk project of the early 90s

Incredible!

Prince 1987

Sign o the times tour. Still can't belive how great it was!
