Date it? It screams MSG 1969 even louder than Keith's guitar.

I’ve read Richards replaced Taylor’s rhythm guitar on the Berry tunes on Ya Yas. He probably wanted a more gnarly tone. My bet is if Taylor played with that more gnarly tone live, Richards would have yelled at him to turn it down!

You hear Taylor's guitar in this version. A few modest licks and mostly rhythm.

I can see why Mick replaced the vocals here. Lacked energy.

Yes, on the Criterion Collection version. Also includes MSG performances of Oh Carol and Prodigal Son.

I think Little Queenie and Carol are weak tracks. I would have put Satisfaction and I’m Free on the album instead .Compared to Bye Bye Johnny 1972 and Around and Around 1964

If it's Oh Carol it must be super-rare smiling smiley

You're kidding me. THIS is the pure essence of what The Rolling Stones are all about. Close your eyes and just ... listen and suck it into your brain. BANG!

Admittedly that was what I had thought, but the curtains behind Mick and the seemingly small stage made me have doubts.

I've never been to MSG, but have always thought of it as a large arena, and that sort of rules out curtains for a stage.

Well, you are right: Bye Bye Johnny from MSG definitely ranks right up there with Carol and Little Queenie. Could have added Let It Rock from the back of the 7" too.

Little Queenie as featured on this video (and Ya Yas) is an example of what the Stones do exceptionally well. Its their forte-where they excel and leave imitators in the dust. It is by no means a "weak" track. To even insinuate that is just ridiculous.

The one track where they outBerryed Berry. Charlie alone gives a master class in dynamics.

Mixing, etc. Little Queenie.

It was a stroke of genius to slow down the tempo on both songs.

Right. His part here serves the song. Taylor turned down his guitar volume and it’s not that crunchy, overdriven sound like the overdub. That’s probably why it was overdubbed.

If CAROL was filmed at MSG, then (my original query) it's most unlikely that LITTLE QUEENIE was also filmed at that venue.

The MSG stage definitely appears to be far far larger than the stage in the Little Queenie clip.

Seems the same to me with the same camera angles, especially the cameraman in the crowd near the front. If you just watch the Gimme Shelter DVD, the stage isn't that big. I'm sure the Maysles brothers filmed all 3 MSG shows.
