OT: A new ABBA album in 2021
Posted by: Stoneage ()

Well, 5 new songs at least. The 4 members are in the studio together for the first time since 1982. 5 new songs will be released in 2021 according to Björn Ulvaeus.

I thought they did this a few years ago and that the songs would be released this year (for some reason). They're probably overdubbing a bit more. Björn is famous for triple-tracking everything smiling smiley

Good for them. I’m sure it’ll sell steadily. ABBA Gold is the second-biggest selling album of all time in the U.K., just a shade behind Queen’s Greatest Hits. I think the U.K. purchases more ABBA music than any nation outside of the Scandinavian region!

I genuinely like a lot of ABBA tunes, probably the best constructed pop songs by a band ever. Not a team of writers or any of that b ollocks.

That's exactly how I remember them! But one question still remains - who's the Dancing Queen in this picture?

I predict an eventual reunion tour with ludicrous tickets prices.

If it happens, it'll be with holograms, not the real people. At this point, Abba doesn't hate each other like they'd did but they've flat out said they don't believe they'll ever get on stage for a full scale tour again, which completely makes sense given their age. So at this point, there's no way they suddenly have a change of heart and succumb. If they wanted to, it would have had to at least been 10 years ago, and the offers have been there forever. They hated each other long enough to the point that by the time they didn't, they thought they were too old to live up to their legacy. Sad, cause I would never go see their holograms, but would adore seeing an aged Abba, if they could still sing.

I don't know the plan behind this release. Maybe a jubilee of sorts? Before it's all to late. They haven't performed together for 40 years so a tour is out of the picture.
Maybe some digital imaginary? 5 new songs after 40 years of nothing is a wonder in itself though.

ABBA never scored on nostalgia. They have been offered huge sums of money for a reunion but turned everything down. I guess they thought they had enough of money.
They didn't tour that much when they were active either. They didn't bother to tour the USA for example. Basically I think it was Agneta who didn't like touring.

The world could use a new ABBA album right now...AND a new Stones album.

ESPECIALLY a new stones album!

They toured USA and Canada in 1979. 17 shows

Thanks. I knew they went there but I didn't know they did 17 gigs. There you go.

Someone previously speculated there's a much better chance of getting a brand new original album from The Beatles than a brand new original album from the Stones!

I didn't realize they were all still alive. I had thought one of them committed suicide?

Why should they? "In 2000, ABBA was reported to have turned down an offer of approximately one billion US dollars to do a reunion tour consisting of 100 concerts." - [www.MTV.com] , [en.Wikipedia.org] .

It's careless to go out with information like that without checking the facts first. All the four original members are alive and well.
