Maybe they like the logo? In the US, is there Esso or is it Exxon?

ESSO was Tiger In the Tank and therefore noteworthy I guess. Like Things Go Better With Coke (spoon) logos or even STP, Andy Granatelli's "motor miracle", more like a miracle your motor would even run with that crap in it.

The Esso jumpsuit was a fad for rock stars for about 5 minutes in 1975.

Yeah, in the mid-60's their slogan was that it put a "tiger in your tank."

Buck Owens said that those ads were the inspiration for his hit song, "I've Got A Tiger By The Tail."

Since it's inspired by an ad, perhaps it's the very definition of "commercial co-opted pap"

Esso changed it's name to Exxon in the US in '72.
Esso still exists in some places that weren't franchises etc.

I stopped at an Esso in Ontario on the way to the gig in Oro-Medonte in 2019 to fuel up... could not figure out for the life of me how to work the damn pump!! I musta stood out there lookin' at the thing for 5 minutes...

Finally walked into the store and told the lady I felt like an idiot, I couldn't figure out how to get my gas... she said just go ahead and pump it, and when you finish, come on back in and pay... there was no credit card hooked up to the pumps!

I hadn't seen one without in the US in prolly 30 years, who knows how long?

Lady was really cool, happy to hear I was travelling north to see The Rolling Stones!
