For some of us, these guys were so cool. I still think of what courage it takes to sit on top of a rocket and hope it gets you there and hope you get back.

He was the loneliest man ever for a few hours - far away from Earth and his 2 pals down below on the Moon - takes some balls to do that-

There's an amazing photograph he took (maybe someone can post it) that shows the Lunar Module, carrying Neil and Buzz, as it's ascending from the surface of the moon, heading back towards the Command Module, and in the distance, you can see the earth. Every human being alive in 1969 is in that photo .... except for Michael Collins.

Legend, hero, astronaut...flying around the far side of the moon solo while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were on the surface...must have been a bit eerie to be so isolated...brave man.

RIP Michael Collins

Michael was definitely in a very exclusive club , and as you said, looking down on Earth where everyone else was apart from his two fellow astronauts .

Everyone who has gone up into Space on top of a huge rocket is a true hero and extremely brave.

R.I..P. Michael Collins

Yep, travel to the moon, some achievement. Nothing compares to that. RIP.

He was the Guest of Honor and speaker at my Eagle Scout Court of Honor in 1982. I got to shake his hand, and still have his autograph. I appreciate his accomplishments more now than I did as a distracted teen.

Still a rather small group of humans who have orbited the moon. Hard to imagine there are plans being made for humans to go to Mars and back.

Mr. Collins shares the legacy of those who journey into Space.

Well done, Sir.

RIP

From the dim recesses of my memory I remembered this small tune from The Byrds regarding Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins. Enjoy.

Going to the moon was another amazing accomplishment by Western Civilization.

It's so hard to comprehend the technology they had back then to be able to land on the moon! A 15 year old laptop is pretty much ancient, let alone computer technology over 50 years ago.
