Nice - listening to Taylors solo makes me think of the excellence that lies beyond the fadeout on Sway, but guess they could only squeeze so much virtuosity in to a single vinyl

Just now listening. Taylor has a really cool half step walk down I’ve never noticed in the song

Chuck Berry double stops in Open G with the dirtiest tone you can imagine.

How great is that!

Holy Hell! That last section (the guitar arrangements) that first dirty bit!!!!

I also went down the YouTube rabbit hole and listened to the iso tracks for Brown Sugar and Moonlight Mile.

Happy 50th, Sticky Fingers!

The bit that begins at 38:30 isn't Keith. It's from some Guitar Hero or Rock Band video game or something like that. It smokes, but it ain't Keith.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how are people able to isolate these specific tracks? Love listening to them!

You are so right. Keith is tuned to G, but he’s playing a fifth below in C, then Taylor comes in with a ii7 (Dm7)

this is Brown Sugar - not as clean, with a lot more bleed, than CYHMK - but the ragged harmonies sound just fantastic.

Here is the full list of isolated tracks songs

According to Parachute Wyman ,Taylor plays the guitar along with the acoustic by Keith and saxophone on the second playing of Brown Sugar which begins at3:56 on this Deconstructed Brown Sugar. That is not Keith on the electric.

Well, according to is just that. It's Keith from the sound of it. It's obvious.

I assume that the creator of these isolated tracks is using a piece of software called Acoustica. It allows you to create stems from the final mixed tracks. It does a pretty good job but there are lots of acoustic artifacts...and of course your can't completely extract various instruments. The keyboard parts in most Stones songs are so buried that it's almost impossible to extract any piano/keyboard.

Acoustica

Not a dumb question at all.

I think there are basically two ways - either (obviously) you have the separate tracks available, and this has been the case for some songs on youtube because the separate tracks were available in games like Rock Band. I believe Gimme Shelter and a couple of other famous Stones tracks have been posted like this on youtube before.
Obviously, even with separate tracks there can be some bleed from other instruments that appeared during the recording if they were recorded in the same room.

The other way is to actually separate the sounds in the released version, by using frequency cancellation techniques in an audio editing program. This can be done really effectively if you have an instrument solo at some point in the song; and then select that part and use it as a blueprint for removing it and so on. But obviously this can't be done with all instruments, so I guess you'd use some frequency analysis functions.

Anyway, the tracks from Parachute Wyman on youtube discussed in this thread don't sound like they were separate to begin with.

You can hear Keith's second electric guitar + some hints of Keith's acoustic guitar.

It does not sound to me like Keith.I’m not a guitar expert like a lot of you guys but comparing the second electric guitar to the alternate Brown Sugar you can find on YouTube with the Taylor solo at the end, there are similar note being played. Plus the album credits on the album when it was first released in 1971 saidit is Taylor. This has never been corrected by the Stones.

It's the same second guitar as on the studio version: Keith playing Berry-licks.

The version with Taylor on guitar featured Taylor playing counter-licks on the instrumental bridges (the same chord pattern that Bobby solos on). Keith's second electric guitar track does counter-licks on the choruses.
