Just seen the news as it came in on BBC.

Whatever people think of our Royal Family,and I do feel for them at this sad time, he was a husband and father and you could never call him dull.

R.I.P. The Duke of Edinburgh.

Throughout all of the recent turmoil, a person I have more respect and empathy towards, is our Queen. The Duke’s passing was inevitable, but the timing most unfortunate.

He was quite the character and, yes, he offended many undoubtedly, but I, personally found him rather amusing. A relic from a different time. His kind certainly won’t be repeated. Rest in peace, Prince Philip.

One story involving Prince Philip, possibly apocryphal, has circulated in Canada for years, though the reported locale varies. Apparently, many years ago during a Royal Visit, in a smaller town somewhere (north of Edmonton? The Yukon? Kenora?) the town put on a big dinner for the Queen and Prince Philip. Local folks were recruited to serve. After the main meal, as the story goes, a woman came to clear plates and, noticing that Philip had set his cutlery on his plate, removed his fork and put it on the table, saying ‘Save your fork, Duke, there’s pie coming!’ Reports were he was delighted! Welcome to Canada!

Served his country in WW2,in combat ,which he probably could have avoided if he was a coward.Never did anything but represent the royal family with class and dignity
