Ronnie receives Freedom of the City of London
Date: April 7, 2021 16:24

Three cheers for Ronnie!

My Lord Mayor, Lord Chamberlain, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am humbled and honoured to receive the Freedom of the City of London.

As a child, I saw the city from the canals and over the years I’ve seen it from many different perspectives.

Despite my career in music and art taking me all over the world, I am never happier than when coming home to this great city where I was born.

It is a lovely surprise to be recognised with this award and it has made me, Sally, and my twin girls Alice and Gracie very proud.

I very much hope to come and meet you in person at the Guildhall when circumstances allow.

R x

Congrats to Ronnie!! smileys with beer

The thing I noticed most when staying in Twickenham in '18 for the Stones gig, was how much Ronnie, along with his two brothers were a presence in the area.

From posters of Pub nights honoring his late brother, to people telling me their personal stories about them.
It was a bit surprising to me and informative as I wasn't familiar with his brothers or the "Artwoods" band. Was very cool.

Without, admittedly, researching, am I right in thinking Ronnie’s been granted the key to the City itself and not to London as a whole? If the former, his freedom only stretches a mile!

Now when U2 got the freedom of Dublin one of things it allowed them to do was graze sheep in the town square or something,

Let's hope Ronnie's able to do something appropriately silly, I'm sure Peter Cook would approve

Congrats from Waterrats to Ronnie! :-)

Very well done. Now Ronnie has some interesting rights bestowed on him

Quote
Freedom of the City of London is often thought to bestow certain privileges on the recipient, but these honours are largely historical (the right to drive cattle over London Bridge) or apocryphal (the right to a silken rope if hanged, and the right to carry an unsheathed sword in public).

=> loudersound.com

That accolate stems from way back up to ca. 1237:

=> echolive.ie

Whew, Ronnie, drive your sheeps and cows right into London town, but please, skip the silken rope! grinning smiley

It's tokenistic nonsense. The ancient privileges and rights bestowed upon in him are for sheer novelty value: sheep across London Bridge, carrying a sword, etc. I'm not a fan of this tripe. Also, for the non-Brit's: he doesn't have the freedom of London; just the City of London; the square mile .

Didn't he play on a song that stated that "the bankers are @#$%&"? winking smiley

Congrats, Ronnie!

Leah needled him on Instagram about not mentioning all of the family, only Sally and the girls.

Life goes on....

... or cop a Muddy, fake Michelangelo style to try to paint a ceiling as a futile, uninspired homage to himself and his famous musician friends -- some of whom are in the band that he currently works for.

Lol.
Nothing quite like a jealous, bitter, failed, wannabe, artist.

Speaking of which..
How's your book coming along based on their artwork from only one of their albums ??
You know, from the thread you deleted most of the posts from and asked others to (myself included) do the same in fear someone would steal your work?
LOl.

I resemble that remark! LOL.

It's painful. But it's coming along. Additional research has revealed plenty.
I've met up with Bob L (from Hubert's Freaks book) a couple times before the pandemic.
Spoke to Russ L on the phone recently.
Corresponded with June Leaf (Robert Frank's widow) to get her permission to use the photo in a book ... Ensuing legal blather with Frank's official gallery people over the requirements for publishing rights
I still have to get in touch with John van Hamersveld again ... Turns out that a gallery owner in the city is a mutual friend. Hoping that he is able to answer some other questions.

Wouldn't this also be considered a "paltry honour" by Keith?
After all, that's what he called Sir Mick's knighthood which certainly carries more prestige.

From Keith, 2003:

"I don't want to step out onstage with someone wearing a coronet and sporting the old ermine.
I told Mick it's a paltry honor ... It's not what the Stones is about, is it?"
