Unclear sound spoils a good song somewhat...

Lousy mix. IMO when people talk about the "weird", "off" sound of GHS this is one of the songs that comes to mind. (CYHTM being the other one).Taylor's slide is excellent. I have a feeling Jagger liked the idea of inclusding this one because he could list the piano credit LOL

"Hide Your Love" has such great feel to it.

The loose, bluesy, wiped-out vibe is so reminiscent of "Exile." I'd slot it somewhere on side 3 of that record--maybe with "Just Wanna See His Face."

I also lump it in with some "hot and sweaty" Stones tracks:

"Hey Negrita"
"Too Rude"
"You Gotta Move"
"Sweet Black Angel"
"Everything Is Turning To Gold"
"Ventilator Blues"
"Cherry Oh Baby"
"Slave"
"Hip Shake"
"Crackin' Up"
"Parachute Woman"
"Back Of My Hand"
"Waiting On A Friend"

As I look at that list...well, that's my party record for my next visit to the Carribean or to the soon-to-be resurgent New Orleans.

definitely one of my favorites from that album.

i think that whole album should be remixed. the sound is very muddy with very little definition as a whole compared with other stones albums from that same period.

It´s fantastic: Jagger´s piano and Taylor´s guitar.

I agree completely. It's one of GHS's best tunes, and the mix is part of the feel.

I agree that the mix and the sound are integral to the song... it's hardly much of a composition, and the lyrics are unintelligible. Remixing it or doing a clean live version would seem beside the point to me. It's just a nice swampy groove with a cool sound, fits in well with the album, which ultimately falls a little flat, but is hugely underrated.

I love it. It's one of the greatest songs ever written and recorded with some of the best guitar playing ever played in the history of the world.

Love this tune...among the 2 hidden gems from GHS along with Winter. Incredible slide guitar by Mick Taylor and exceptional piano (is it Nicky Hopkins or is it Mick?)

It's no hidden favorite, I always kinda liked the song, on the other hand it's not one of the greatest songs, I'd rate it a 6 or 7 out of 10. But the BIG FIVE on this album are "Dancing with Mr. D", "Angie", "Winter", "Can you hear the music" and "Star star". To me it was always "Silver train" which wore the crown of the worst song on that album and there was never a doubt about that.

100 years ago is IMO by far the best track on the album. Closely followed by Coming Down Again.

I like Can You Hear The Music (not everybody does that...), but I would never rank it before 100 y a.

Very nice and underrated song. The low point of GHS is not Hide Your Love, but Can You Hear The Music.

"I'm a sick man, I wanna cry....Lord I'm a drunk man, but now I'm dry"

great classic blues....

not the most creative, not the most brilliant song-writing...not the "most" anything....

just a great blues tune....

Hi James Lynn (or MEZ) that now your posts about songs makes much more sense and is interesting to read. It was this number-rating that was a bit off. Congratulations!

In my mind, "Dancing With Mr. D" is the by far weakest track on "Goat's Head." Followed closely by "Angie."

I love "Winter," "Silver Train," "Hide Your Love," "@#$%&," and "Coming Down Again."

"Can You Hear the Music?" is so outright weird and so psychedelic that it's impossible to dislike. What the hell were the Stones thinking?
