Exile 1 LP suggestions

Sometime ago I read somewhere that Keith had plans for an Exile single LP. I don’t how serious these plans were. For me Exile is perfect as it is but how could a single album look like? The idea is not to put your favourite ten tracks together but to create an album with a good flow. This is my choice. What would be yours?

A
Rocks Off
Rip This Joint
Ventilator Blues
Shine A Light
Tumbling Dice

B
Happy
Loving Cup
All Down The Line
Sweet Virginia
Let It Loose

I am pretty shure that this has been discussed here before. If so, I apologize!

To me, its easy:

Side A:
Rocks Off
Rip This Joint
Tumbling Dice
Sweet Virginia
Torn And Frayed
Loving Cup

Side B:
Happy
Ventilator Blues
Let It Loose
All Down The Line
Shine A Light
Soul Survivor

Yes, I love the whole album and feel like I'd be losing something without Stop Breaking Down, Shake Your Hips, etc, but to me those 12 would always be the single album for me.

Tried to contribute, but I give up!

Can't think of one single song I would leave out.

I don't believe that Keith's plans were too serious. The Stones were at a creative peak and could easily have released a triple album.

Nice choices! From my perspective, you hit the major cuts.

This is probably the one double album where every single track is indispensable to me. So, I couldn't do it!

It's sacrilege, but...

Rocks Off
Rip This Joint
Tumbling Dice
Sweet Virginia
Loving Cup

Happy
All Down The Line
Sweet Black Angel
Ventilator Blues
Let It Loose

Edit down Exile to a single album?

I guess this is what happens when bands stop releasing new music - the fans start rearranging, second guessing, and speculating on the various albums of the past.
This, along with the 'Get rid of 2 songs, add 2 songs' thread is a true sign that things are rapidly spiraling downwards on the Stones' lengthy career.
The only remedy would be a new album, but alas...I guess this is what we're destined for....

Having said all that, I could never edit Exile down to a single album. If push came to shove though, I could maybe delete Ventilator Blues, but everything else has to stay.

I made EOMS a single album a few years ago... and SF a double with what was put on EOMS. Fortunately it doesn't change anything historically, just the context of how one listens. It's just another playlist.

I could make a great quintuple album that includes all of Beggars, all of Let it Bleed, all of Sticky Fingers, and all of Exile.
AKA the 'Big Four', and as a bonus album throw in all of YaYas, then off to the nearest desert island I can find.

yeah, just crazy to think about. How about editing Beggars or Let It Bleed down to an EP of 5 songs? You can't!

Do not attempt this. It will fill you with guilt.

Keith in Guitar World 2014 admits:

“The fact that the Beatles had done it probably gave us a sense of, ‘Oh, there is a precedent,’ ” Richards says. “But our point was that we’d put down this body of work and when it came to chopping it down to one album, nobody could agree on which songs to cut. After a while, Mick and I looked at each other and said, ‘This is impossible. How about a double? This is all one piece. It’s gonna be unique just because of where it was recorded and the way it was recorded.’ We sort of nodded at one another and said, ‘Let’s go.

As for the possibility of the Rolling Stones or some younger band making a modern-day equivalent of Exile on Main St. today, Richards demurs. “I’m not saying it’s impossible,” he says. “But, hey, it’s probably highly unlikely.”for it.’ Which gave us hell from the record company: ‘Aw, the public hates double albums,’ and all of that. But we insisted.”

Thanks for posting this, they made a great decision. Really, the only decision.

the original idea of Exile was
four separate sides ....
Each side to be thought of/played of as a seperate album ...

The myth continues, especially since a decent amount wasn't put on EXILE that was truly from the France sessions. How many tracks were recorded for LET IT BLEED and STICKY FINGERS that ended up considered for or used on EXILE? At least these:

So Devine
Shine A Light
All Down The Line
Loving Cup
Tumbling Dice
Shake Your Hips
Stop Breaking Down
Sweet Virginia
Sweet Black Angel
