Any songs where your opinions have shifted over time?
Posted by: RollingFreak ()

Even within a song itself? For example, I was always "eh" on Can't You Hear Me Knocking. Younger, I liked the first half but thought the second was garbage. I even edited the song on my own to fade out at 3 minutes. Then as I got older, I realized how @#$%& dumb I was and adore the second half. I was blasting it this morning and realized nowadays I look forward to the second half moreso than the straight ahead first. Funny how things just change.

Anyone else have similar feelings with any Stones songs?

Yes.

I thought "Midnight Rambler" was a long, boring song until I saw it live in Charlotte in 1999 on the small stage. Awesome, ass-kicking version! Loved it since.

As a kid, "Paint It Black" was just plain weird/creepy. Now I love it.

I thought "Rock And A Hard Place" was great when it came out, but quickly got bored with it.

I used to hate Country Honk as I always thought HTW is a masterpiece which would make Let It Bleed EVEN better but I sat and schooled my little 1 and a half year old daughter about the merits of the album the other day and found myself actually enjoying the song. Maybe her prescence had summat to do with it. Still think both Flash and HTW should've graced their two respective albums, would've been even better.

I LOVE Rock And A Hard Place, anger, disillusion and hopeful energy all in one bite!smileys with beer

Always, liked "Moonlight Mile," but grew to view it as a masterpiece that belongs on every compilation.

I didn't like YGMR at first but after hearing it live like 15 times I enjoy it, ha

Ah but Country Honk is closer to the original concept, or very, very close in fact.
We did not get one without the other.

Hit singles wasn't usual in the sixties anyway.

I despised and still do the studio Dance Little Sister.

' Turd of a song' - either Glynn or Andy Johns ( I think Andy.

But am really enjoying the El Mocambo Version.
There"s a lyrics version on YouTube with that soundtrack. Cool.

- Midnight Rambler – never enjoyed the studio version. Rediscovered the song for me during the No Filter tours

- She's So Cold. I actually booed when Jagger announced it was the song vote's winner in Arnheim. But in fact the song turned out to be a highlight of this great show

I find myself saying "this one took some time to grow on me" about songs a lot, but now that there's a thread about it nothing is coming to mind. WTF.

Similar thread started by Pietro just a few months ago: Stones songs you used to like/dislike, but not now?

I use to dislike the Dirty Work album when it first came out.

Now I dislike it even more but like Harlem Shuffle after seeing it live several times.

Most of Exile On Main Street. I was late to the party. When I got into the Stones around 77-78 it was one of the last albums I got and I didn't think that much of it. Always liked Rocks Off, TD, Happy and All Down the Line but the rest took a while to grow on me. I now listen to it often and think it is their finest work. In fact I don't think that there is a finer rock n roll album than Exile. But Casino Boogie, Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, Sweet Black Angel, Loving Cup, Ventilator Blues etc really took awhile for me to appreciate.

I used to hate "Rock And A Hard Place" but it grew on me for some reason. Now I like it for the most part.

I have definitely tired of "Tumbling Dice". It's a brilliant song, but for me it's the warhorse that's worn out the most.

I only listen to the warhorses now when I'm watching concert videos, to be honest. "Miss You" is basically the only one I listen to for pleasure.

Thank goodness you grew older, Rolling Freak! I always liked the whole, especially yes, the second half.

jaisnotdead, I agree, am definitely so very tired of TD in concert.
I now enjoy IORR much more in concert than I did in the studio recording.

I can really concur with this. I was gifted Exile on Main Street one Christmas. Having read how great it supposedly is, I was excited to listen to this 1972 masterpiece: how disappointed I was. It just didn’t grab me at all. In fact, I would argue it took several years before I truly ‘got’ it. To this day, however, I definitely feel it’s not an entry-level Stones release and I do consider it essential to listen to the record from start-to-finish. It’s far more appreciable as a whole work.

I used to rate them all at 10 out of 10.
Now I rate them all at 11.

Yes Exile took a while to fully appreciate, now it’s grown into my favorite album of all time.

Emotional Rescue, the album, really disliked it when it was released, but over the years I’ve given it a chance and once again, it’s grown on me.

Yes, the entire Dirty Work album.

The more I listen to it the more awful I think it is.

At least we got One Hit and Harlem Shuffle.

They really could have done a better job here.

I hardly ever listen to The Rolling Stones ... when I'm asleep ...
All dreams I had about the Stones for some reason never got to the point that they actually started playing. Ain't that weird?
