Hairball

No doubt it would be more captivating for many of the Japanese fans if he did the entire performance speaking Japanese .

No doubt also he could have sold 50,000 tickets regardless of him being able to speak Japanese for two hours or notcool smiley

Officially dubbed Suntory Dry Beer Live Mick Jagger in Japan, the tour – although a commercial and artistic success – showed how disappointing Jagger’s career as a solo performer has been. By the time he reached Tokyo’s Korakuen stadium on March 22nd, Jagger had dropped three of the solo songs he had performed at his shows in Osaka; the Tokyo concert featured just six songs from his two solo albums, She’s the Boss and Primitive Cool. Instead, the fans at the newly opened 50,000-seat domed stadium were treated to a heavy dose of Stones classics in the twenty-two-song, two-and-a-half-hour show.

For the encore, giant hanko (Japanese signature stamps) that bore Jagger’s name in Japanese letters appeared on the monitors, and the Japanese percussionist Stomu Yamashta came into view, pounding the opening drum part of “Sympathy for the Devil.” Jagger reappeared wearing a hannya, a Japanese devil mask, and was soon joined by some forty dancing girls outfitted in black and pink. Smoking volcanoes kicked off the show’s final number, a furious, metallic version of “Satisfaction.” The Japanese fans were elated: it was almost like seeing the Rolling Stones.

It's an accurate article.

Not necessarily.
First and foremost of all, nowhere does the article mention the most probable reason three songs were dropped from the setlist in Tokyo — that Mick had had a bad cold during his stint in Osaka, which caused a postponement of the fourth and final show in the region after Tokyo and Nagoya dates. After three days off, he recovered to the extent that he could manage the show in Tokyo. However, the performance of the Tokyo Dome that was broadcasted on TV shows that he was not on top form — his voice was clearly shot.
Adding to that, the big welcome party that was to be held in Tokyo on March 21st, the day before the Dome show — lots of celebs and VIPs had received invitations from the organizers — was cancelled.
This is perhaps the most remarkable incident that happened during the Japan tour, vividly remembered by the Stones fans in Japan to this day — yet the reporter does not mention it in the article, none whatsoever. Information manipulation or what?

I remember he dropped Lonely At The Top, War Baby, Lucky In Love, Say You Will, Radio Control and Shoot Off Your Mouth.
He probably couldn't sing songs using high range because of his laryngitis and stadium shows are different from arena shows.
He slightly changed setlist for Nagoya International Exhibition Hall on 25, March.

He slightly changed setlist for Nagoya International Exhibition Hall on 25, March.

To be exact;
25 songs were played in Osaka, March 15th, 16th and 18th.
Lonely At The Top, Lucky In Love and Shoot Off Your Mouth were dropped in Tokyo, March 22nd and 23rd (22 songs).
Adding to the above, Say You Will was dropped but Foxy Lady (Jimi Hendrix cover) was added in Nagoya, March 25th and 26th (22 songs).
In Osaka, March 28th (postponed from 19th), the setlist was the same as Nagoya but Shoot Off Your Mouth was revived (23 songs).

Thanks,

I still believe
Throwaway, Lonely At The Top and Shoot Off Your Mouth played in Osaka were once-in-a-lifetime souped-up renditions.

Yep, Ryanpow. Jagger, formula 1A. When he gets a question he doesn't like he just shuts down the interview. Seen it over and over.
He is always, seemingly, very friendly to start with. Then, snap, the interview is over...

what a snot. used to having his way and people fawning over him.
