Can anyone recommend some modern day soul music? I've been listening to a lot of soul music lately and was just wondering what folks on here had to say. Many thanks!

I'm not really sure how to classify it, I first heard a couple of songs off it on SiriusXM's Outlaw Country Channel, but this is the first CD I've bought of this style of music in a long time.

The soul music of the 60s and 70s (up until about the time of the disco explosion) was some of the finest music ever made.

The same cannot be said of rap.

I'm sure that quality soul (like quality blues based rock and roll) is still being made and performed, just not getting radio airplay.

A damn shame.

Yes, I've seen St. Paul a couple of times - excellent. Ditto Alabama Shakes.

Lianne La Havas released one of the best albums of 2020.
You might want to check it out.

Black Pumas are pretty good.
Maybe more hiphop than (neo)soul, but Sampa The Great and especially Anderson .Paak are great.

And the already mentioned Yola is a force of nature.

I would recommend Frank Ocean, Channel Orange album from a few years back. The song Pyramids is a good taster.

The Black Pumas and Leon Bridges are relatively new and young and they are great. I listen to them a lot.

The James Hunter Six are without question the best blue-eyed soul band out there. They are subtle, creative and smooth. Never loud or abrasive. Each and every album is excellent. James Hunter is a a talent. The closest style I can compare him to would be the early 60's soul in the vein of "Pouring Water on a Drowning Man"(by James Carr), "Every Little Bit Hurts"(by Brenda Holloway), "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show"(by Joe Tex), and "Um Um Um Um Um"(by Major Lance). If theat every of soul appeals to you then you will love James Hunter. I've been listening to them more than the Stones for the past 5 years

Don't know nothing about new soul but as a soul music lover I can tell that there is a lot of almost unknown soul singers from the 60 and 70 to be discovered.

Hardly yes... he's 67. The first Gap Band album is from 1974.
But yeah... great, late 70s-early 80s, band
Not particularly fond of his solo career though. Wouldn't really categorize it as Soul. Gap Band was funk, solo he's r&b.

And he seems to be on every hip-hop/r&b album. Enough already... (last years Car #85 with Nas was pretty cool though)
