Is this any worse than all the other Stones-gimmicks out there?

I mean - christmas ornaments, cell phone cases, playing cards, poker chips....

what makes chocolate so horrible?

LOL it's the same as health care being THE reason the United States would officially, apparently, become a socialist country... even though it's been a (capitalist) socialist country for eons.

Still though... not another new single? They could at least give us another single.

The Rolling Stones destroyed their brand many years ago, when they started to sell the tongue as a brand on daily men's wear in stores like Dressman in Norway and other places. Mick met up with the Dressman management and key sales people at a big kick-off party in Buenos Aires, and they got millions of dollars for the deal.

When you meet an old guy, or a young girl, with a Stones shirt, and you ask them about the Stones, and they don't know what the Stones are all about, then the brand is dead.

Also, the brand was dead for me when I met people with tour shirts from places they had never been to. It's like having a "FINISHER" black shirt from a major triathlon, and you don't even know what triathlon is all about.

I think the Baseball & NFL Football Themed shirts were catering precisely to that audience.

Disclaimer: I bought a Cleveland Browns tongue shirt and COVID cancelled that show (and I didn't have tix)

In my defense, I love the Browns, I love the Stones....plus, I got it at a Browns game in Cleveland Fall 2019 from some parking-lot-un-official-t-shirt-salesperson...

so, that makes me feel better...I guess I don't feel like such a tool in that regard.

I also bought the Brisbane Litho b/c as a surfer I liked the Wave-Tongue....I've never been to Brisbane.

LOL having been to 2 Stones shows in the Superdome if someone gave me a New Orleans Saints/Stones shirt I wouldn't dare wear it because it would fall apart!

Next will be the other great myth - Keith falling out of a coconut tree.

He was sitting on a low branch of a tree, jumped down, and when he landed, he landed awkwardly and somehow hit his head on the tree.

How it became a coconut tree/palm tree I don't know but it's fake news.

I never really took the "coconut/palm" part literally true.

If it were an almond tree, you could make a good chocolate bar.

I'd like a "Too Much Blood" Chainsaw please.

Is that more believable than Keith saying Muddy was painting the ceiling at Chess studios when the Stones were there in 64?

They can do whaterver they want.I do not care.

But

Does Charlie really need this?
Does Keith really need to sell Chocolate?
Does Mick need to find new ways to make more money other than show business?
Does Ron? (well...Ron may sell you a mattress or a wooden spoon...).

Are they broke?

By the way,...keith showed a bit of dissapointment when Bill opened his own business as it consisted of "selling burgers"...grinning smiley

Meh... Keith wasn't too far off at the time.. or now really.
They were off to do world tours, and the money was just getting reallly good, so opening a restaurant in London, selling American burgers, and naming it "Sticky Fingers"
was good justification for a jab, again at the time. Love the place myself, decent American fare, and lots of memorabilia (maybe not after his auction) good service etc.

RS Inc. has always sold whatever people will buy, reconciled by most fans circa 1981. It's not "Ronnie, or Mick or Charlie.. per se to me,
it's all part of their brand and RS Inc. Personally, I dig it.

I think it's sad this is the best thing we have to talk about.

There is so much they could give us if they wanted to.

Re: Rolling Stones Chocolate Bars?

I think they should get back to more directly music connected items. Like the 7" Exile on Main Street record box I got. That was something worthwhile in my mind. T shirts and overpriced hoodies are marginally connected but more imaginative marketing would be nice. Like Goats Head Soup turntable mat. Or all five (Bill is a must) bobble heads or figures on a stage. Not dumb chocolate bars or generic crap like that. If you cannot give us music at least keep it music connected. As it is, I didn't see anything in that store (the London one I mean) that would make me want to travel there to see it. Fisherman's Wharf syndrome at its worst.

After unwrapping the chocolate bars, there's nothing Rolling Stones about them. When do we get Rolling Stones toothpaste and Rolling Stones body spray?

Like how about an 1/18th scale reproduction of the Rolling Stones Mobile Recording Studio complete with removable top and detailed interior. Now that is something I would lay down a couple hundred bucks for.

Agreed. The Fabs have this sort of stuff out there... [www.fishpond.com.au]

What next? Hyde Park 1969 stage? And/or models of all of the stage sets since Steel Wheels. That would have to include the blow ups of course!!

As they are slipping away.....seemingly now incapable of releasing a new album.....but still needing to make money.....how about Stones Tongue logo on toilet rolls ? They could sell them over and over and over and over and over again (like their songs) but they would sell every week with no need to change the packaging. They would have global appeal and global use. In fact if they used all the different logo versions on different rolls they may become highly collectible with no complications from language barriers. Universal appeal.

Otherwise.....either issue music or retire.

Terrific idea, and if they produced even more RS-food like that Chocolate bar, they'd sell even more toilet paper. I bet both that papers and RS-food in decent condition, of the very first pressings, would be the ultimate collectors items 100 years ahead.

In fact people at that time might not ever have heard of the band, just the candy and the toilet paper. Just like we now doesn't care if whoever made up yoghurt or cheese some 1000s years ago could sing or not.

Food for thought

I agree the idea is silly, but I think the creation of a RS brand helped the band keep fresh and appealing to the younger generations. It's cool to wear shirts with the tongue logo, even if people don't even know where it comes from.

The brand will continue to exist after the band is done, and if managed wisely, it can still honor the past, bring new fans and bring revenue. It will become more of an institution.

Of course the kind of items they put their name on is debatable, but surely they won't lose any fans because of chocolate bars. I wouldn't take it too seriously.

But... no new album. Not even a new single.

This can't really be the Stones, it must be Bravado or whatever the name of the company that... bought their rights... or something like that.

Why not tea?

From the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world: the finest herbal tea in the world, The Rolling Stones' TEA AT THREE.

Featuring:

Midnight Rambler black tea
Ruby Tuesday white tea
Ronnie's Oolong tea
You Got The Silver fermented tea
Fingerprint File green tea
Have You Seen Your Mother yellow tea
Time Waits For No One purple tea

All teas made from the finest most elite collection of Camellia sinensis plants in the world grown in a rural area of Oregon as well as various regions of India.

I assume I will get a cut of all sales, yes?
