I am sure there are many opinions...but he was a big influence on the music we love.

Seemingly he died of COVID.

No one can deny the huge influence he had on the world of pop music. Certainly he had some issues...but, don’t we all.

RIP

Yes. but not murder.

Perhaps Woody means he did not like the Wall Of Sound approach to production...a reasonable position.

I've never told anyone this before, but as an aficionado of B movies, I actually knew who Lana Clarkson was when she was alive. I even wrote her a fan letter once. The weirdly long, hand-written reply I received shortly before her death seemed oddly .... desperate. When I first saw the headlines about a B movie actress having been shot to death at Phil Spector's mansion, I knew who it was even before reading her name.

And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

RIP. A troubled musical pioneer for sure. Lot of good work but I am really glad he never got to the Stones!

Right place, right time, with a good idea. He was an older man with some capital and experience in recording and found some great artists to work with. Didn't do much after 1966.

I wasn’t in any way trying to condone or justify or excuse what he did. I was just saying we all have issues...some are OBVIOUSLY more serious than others. Sheesh.

Why actually OT when Phil Spector had played Bass Guitar on the Studio-recording of 'Play With Fire' ?

Singles Collection: The London Years - [www.HighResAudio.com] - Booklet, pg. 7

On 'Little By Little' he played Maracas and got co-writing credits.

He produced some really great music of which "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers may be the best. As a person, he left a lot to be desired.

None of those things he did with the Beatles stand out for their production work. Or his impact on the artists.
George and John didn't know their way around the studio and went with a name producer.

Okay, Taylor. He’s dead, I’m glad he’s dead and I hope he rots in hell.
Do you feel better now??

RIP to Phil the musician/writer/producer only. He co-wrote many of the biggest songs in rock history. In 1963 Da Doo Ron Ron and Then He Kissed Me by the Crystals hit the charts. Soon after Be My Baby by the Ronettes. A song that Brian Wilson said is his favourite song ever. He wrote Don't Worry Baby because of it.
All the other hits by the Ronettes, Righteous Brothers, etc.
Stones wanted that wall of sound on That's How Strong My Love Is.

I can't believe how fast TMZ reports the news. This was reported by them a couple hours ago. I remember they were the first to report Michael Jackson and more recently Eddie VH.

He helped the Stones in the beginning and has songwriting credits on their albums as well. He turned crazy later on, seemingly. RIP.

I personally think he ruined anything he was involved in, minus his early work possibly. A real genuine psychopath. Thats all there is.

Some of his masterworks with the Beatles such as Let it be haven't aged so well. They sound overproduced.

Instant Karma sounds great though.

As a character Spector was rather unpleasant but as a producer he was talented in the sixties.

Personally I think the lead when a convicted murderer passes, regardless of fame, should be "Murderer, XXX XXX dies in prison" followed by his or her bio.
And I definitely won't be wishing one to "Rest In Peace".. nope.

RIP Lana Jean Clarkson

Sad to hear of any big musical contribution from the sixties who have passed. And yes, he was a talented producer. From my perspective, I respect the artist-the man not so much.

I know Lana from the small part she had in Fast Times at Ridgemont High as Mr. Vargas's wife. She was in the scene towards the end of the movie at the highschool dance when she's introduced to the two top students.
