Bill Wyman's New Website
Posted by: MisterDDDD ()
Date: January 13, 2021 00:26

Bill has a new website just launched this month, apparently.
Wasn't familiar with his old site if he had one, but this is very well done.
Great Stones section where he highlights a lot of their history chronologically,

Saw this tweet posted today on Twitter, where surprisingly he followed me back some years ago, and interacted personally a few times.
Great site.. plenty to explore.

Bill’s interests are detailed on the new official website.
You can read all about his love of Archaeology, Art and Collecting plus the Charities Bill supports here: [billwyman.com]
[twitter.com]

Happy New Year everyone!
Have you checked out the new official website yet?
There are lots of interesting new sections at [billwyman.com]

A nice re-launch.

He seems to have lowered the importance of the Rhythm Kings.

They seem to ignore him:

"In 1996 a group of musicians were assembled to form a supergroup.
Musicians involved in this project were numerous and included
many household names. Players such as Peter Frampton, Graham
Broad ,Gary Brooker, Geraint Watkins ,Andy Fairweather-Low,
Mike Sanchez, Georgie Fame, Frank Mead ,Martin Taylor, Nick Payn,
Albert lee and Chris Stainton. The one female addition was
Beverley Skeete. Thus the Rhythm Kings were born.
Over the years the line-up changed and special guests
included Dennis Locorriere ( the voice of Dr Hook) Eddie Floyd,
Mary Wilson, and Gary U.S Bonds. Even soul legends like Solomon Burke,
Ben. E. King, Percy Sledge and Sam Moore were party to the
'Rhythm Kings' Magic.
After many years of touring members went their separate ways .
but with the success of Beverley's solo project she managed to
convince some of the original key players to join her in
reforming a smaller version of the band in order to resume
touring again. After a few sold out shows it was evident
that there is still a market for excellence such as the Rhythm Kings."

Not nice.

Wow, what happened with the Rythm Kings ?! Weren't they "his" band ? They must hold a pretty big grudge...

You gotta love this [billwyman.com]
"Having proved his writing credentials with his debut album, Bill Wyman mixed his own compositions with outside material second time around."

Haha...Wyman's solo albums have to rank among the worst of all those indulgent efforts by sidemen in the 70s, which is saying a lot !

EDIT - skimmed through the timeline and found this funny entry:

"14th April [1973 !]

Bill received copy of Exile On Main Street album, and pointed out many errors on credits (which Mick had compiled) and which were never corrected."

Bill whining as usual, I'm surprised he didn't complain he had to wait months to be given a copy of the album !

>Bill whining as usual,

Not really whining, more like trying to set the record straight. And the royalties. Its only fair and I doubt you would be terming it whining if it were you on that side of the stick. I think the Stones treatment of Bill has been very shabby for a very long time (before he hit the road).

Do agree on the solo albums though, pretty trite stuff.

Bill and his Rythm Kings are/were a funny, clever, humble, complete, extraordinarie effort. Made up of superb professionals. Unpretentious. Without airs of superiority becouse most of them had seen all long before. They enjoyed each step. Great band.

There are only two fleeting mentions of Bill on [www.therhythmkingsuk.com]:

"Terry Taylor was a member of ‘The End’ and later ‘Tucky Buzzard’ both produced by Bill Wyman."

"With this [Graham Board] has been able to work with an array of diverse acts such as, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Procol Harum, Eric Clapton, George Michael, Bryan Adams, Jeff Beck, The SL5 Geezers, and Bill Wyman."

Bill's 'Back to Basics' solo album from 2015 is much better, and more varied than Keith's 'Crosseyed Heart.' 'What & How & If & When & Why' is the best solo Stone single in a long time.

Better than what - the rest? (EDIT: Gotcha, but don't agree smiling smiley )

I must admit I haven't checked out all the Rhythm Kings-albums.

"Stuff" surprised me, though. I never thought Bill would go to such lengths trying to sound contemporary. He even raps on it.

How does Bill Wyman take photos of himself? I noticed in the latest book of photography by him there were a lot of pics of himself. Since he is the author of the book of photography, I have to assume he somehow took those photos, and I don't recall seeing other photographers getting credit (may have overlooked it I guess). Just doesn't seem all that likely.

And its kind of funny what with the Rhythm Kings seemingly distancing themselves from Wyman, that he would feature photos of them on his website.

Whole thing seems kind of strange.

Do you mean "Stones from the Inside"? I saw this posting and looked through it and checked at the end and at the beginning where I'd have normally expected to see something like... "All Images taken by Bill except XXXXX". I found nothing.

And when you look through there really are quite a few with him IN them that he could not have taken.

(I do though happen to know that the photo on Page 111 with Howlin' Wolf was taken by Stephen Wyman).

Good point on the photo's. Really rather odd that there's nothing in the book.

yeah capt thats the one and thats what I was talking about. As a photographer myself (isn't everyone these days?) I found it odd that it seemed he was not giving due credit for the photos. Thought maybe I just missed seeing the bylines.

Some of the photos I recall looked like he could have set them up with the camera on a tripod and a timer or remote shutter release or something and therefore he could say he took them. But others definitely look to be non posed, impromptu shots that had to have been taken by someone else. He really should share the glory as it were.

Not to take away from Bill, as a photographer, musician or ordinary person, just would like some clarity on some of the details. It puzzled me when I was looking at/reading the book.
