Sad to report I just heard Gerry Marsden has passed away from a heart ailment--

He and his band had a number of really good hits during the 1st wave of the British invasion, and from all indications he was a really nice guy.

He was a great ambassador for " the Liverpool beat' in the very early going.
His voice sounded great on the radio.
I was 12 and that series of Hits were earned.
Seemed to be a sweetheart, always with a smile and all that.
RIP

Rest in peace, Gerry Marsden.

Gerry and the Pacemakers were the first act to have three consecutive #1 singles, I believe.

Very sad news about Gerry Marsdon..........who is.....and will always be ,a Liverpool legend.

In my mind he will always be remembered for 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and 'Ferry across the Mersey' , but his band had quite a few more big hits back in those great days.

He was a big part of ' The Mersey Beat' back in the 60's and I love looking at my T.A.M.I. show DVD from 1964 ...........to see all those great performances from USA and UK.
Those great performances by the best of USA and UK will always be remembered by so many of us music fans.smileys with beer

Thanks for posting. Pure 60's pop kitsch (but just as good as The Fabs take on "Till There Was You")- under the circumstances, it kinda gets to ya. Nice performance. God speed Gerry!

I was just talking with my Ma about this, she was a teenager in this era and saw most of the 60's at her local Hall.

She mentioned with a clarity like it was yesterday, "Gerry was married to the same lady his whole life, She'd been dating George Harrison when George went out on tour, she met Gerry and the rest is history"..

Quite cool how certain things about artists stick in peoples minds.

I saw him on a local sports TV show about 15 years ago and he sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Mum added that their music could be listened to by everyone, even her parents, and my Grandfather thought Bing Crosby walked on water, thought Sinatra was to poppy and yearned for Glenn Miller

A friend of mine who's a Liverpool fan showed me this video some years ago. Truly beautiful, although it's probably not the same video you watched.

RIP, Gerry. Thank you for the music.

Just think: if the Beatles hadn’t have turned down How Do You Do It?, things could’ve been so very different. History has a funny way of working out.

Part of the "English Invasion" of America. Fondly recalled. "Ferry Cross The Mersey" and "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying" are what I remember most by him. RIP, Mister Marsden.

And Paul..

Paul:
Gerry was a mate from our early days in Liverpool. He and his group were our biggest rivals on the local scene. His unforgettable performances of You’ll Never Walk Alone and Ferry Cross the Mersey remain in many people’s hearts as reminders of a joyful time in British music...

My sympathies go to his wife Pauline and family. See ya, Gerry. I’ll always remember you with a smile. - Paul

Very generous comments by Yoko and Paul. Good on them. Although I was never a fan of The Pacemakers who I thought were far too poppy, nevertheless Gerry Marsden was a lovely bloke and a thorough professional who deserved his success and his place in the annals of rock'n'roll. God bless him and my deepest sympathies to his family.

Rest in Peace my friend!
