Long time Silver Bullet band member has passed away after battle with colon cancer. Saw Seger many times and Alto Reed was always a big, enjoyable part of the show.

Alto Reed, longtime saxophone player with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, dies at 72

I remember seeing him climb to the top of a massive speaker tower at a stadium show in Buffalo circa 1977-78 during Katmandu. Tight band. Part of an odd bill for a daytime show with Donovan, J Geils Band, Bob Seger and after some fun rock n roll and blues....Yes. Kind of a contrast between 3 minute rockers and a 20 minute mellow tune. Not even a light show to add some mood. Seeing Magic Dick and the Alto Reed, back to back was a total joy though.

Sorry to hear that..
Always enjoyed his performance, as recently as a few years ago, damn.

Saw then many times in the seventies.. remember being on the floor at one in Vancouver where in the middle of his solo from atop the giant stack of speakers he jumps..
the whole crowd moves back like dominos.. as he swings from cables a few feet above everyones heads, still wailing winking smiley
RIP

Rest In Peace Alto! A toss up between him and Magic Dick from J Geils for the coolest name in rock!
Saw Bob Seger last in February 2019 in Vancouver on his farewell tour. Always a huge cheer for Alto during Turn The Page. Not sure how many more shows Seger was going to do on this farewell tour. I wonder once the covid is done if he'll find a replacement and finish off the tour?

Seger's farewell tour ended in November of 2019 last show was in Philadelphia so no dates were affected by the pandemic. I'm 99.9% sure he will never play live again now that Alto is gone.

Sad, another great musician gone.

I'm hoping that a quality concert video from the Night Moves/Stranger in Town era exists somewhere. Maybe Bob has some stuff in the vaults that he will release now that he's hung up his touring shoes. I attended several shows back then and it was great rock and roll.

RIP Alto

I remember the show at Düsseldorf 40 years ago, when I was
a 16 year old kid...I had a seat in the sidewings when during
the show everyone turned their heads...I didn't have a clue what's going on,
so I turned around as well realizing the sax player stood right behind me...

A moment I never forgot...

Safe journey,Alto

That would be great. Both of those tours were excellent.

Bob has never released a box set either.
