Rolling Stones 8 track differences
Date: December 14, 2020 20:35

Some 8 track tapes had extra music on them to "fill in" space because of the longer time on 8 tracks.

Does anyone know if any of the songs on their 8 track releases had extended times over the album release?

Surprisingly my 8 track player still works.

Anyone have insigt on this?

Rarities done right by blakeeik has some info you may find interesting. Our late great friend Deltics has also compiled a similar list of official rarities with that same excellent quality, but I can't find that now.

Just as an example, you can listen to Beast of Burden on its 8-track version here.

We have the Some Girls tracks from the 8-track, that are different: Beast of Burden, Miss You, Shattered, Far Away Eyes (you can find all on youtube, I am sure).

But supposedly a Black & Blue track is different too, Cherry Oh Baby is the one if I remember correctly. But nobody ever posted it, that I am aware of. If you have a working 8 track, maybe you can do that for us all!

The 8 track of Cherry Oh is just an
edited/faded version of the album version ....

Album --- 3.53
8track -- 2.58

This makes sense. I held onto the one 8 track that had different music not the same music in a different order. I know I held on to Animals for just that reason.

Man.... In 1971 if you had an 8-track player in your car you were Da Bomb! Big macho cartridges that you pushed into place...

Yeah single reel so they fed back onto themselves, guaranteeing they would bind up within a month!

Good times!

Wow, that was a really satisfying listen to the longer version of BoB, thank you! The magic of the good old Internet bringing people together.

And to think that it was "always there" hidden in plain sight for 42 years. All of these little nooks and crannies associated with the Rolling Stones.

It must have been interesting in the old days when they had to mix for the album and for the 8-track formats.

When I heard the 8 track version of BOB I wondered why it hasn't been released anywhere else ala RARITIES etc.

Edits are totally bogus; they are just chopped off to make it into the amount of time allowed on a side.

And if I recall correctly, its only been 50 years, but that Midnite Rambler has about 30 seconds of silence in the side change, right in the middle of the song. Not a pleasant experience.

The only worthwhile thing there I think is maybe Miss You. The rest are just chopped off wherever is convenient. Maybe those "single" edits are for real, don't know.

Now there is a worthwhile track, note it is the same album that contained Miss You, also one of the exceptions. So I guess both of those are on the same 8 track.

Yep. Both have different music edits and different lyrics and backing vocal sections than their all other formats to my knowledge. Maybe Dande can add them to their opening post on their Track Talk threads?

Miss You 8 track extra lyrics
Yeah we gonna (can't tell WTF he says - do a car?) in town
You know we gonna mess and fool around, hey man, what's with you?
Yeah you been you been strung out for too long you know
Girls will come and go they're just like streetcars
I'm saying I've been standing here too long
Sometimes I feel abandoned
Woo baby

Same extra lyrics on the 8.35 versions of "Miss You."

I believe the Stones are saving the 8-T Beast of Burden and Miss You for a future project.

I am told that Undercover's Pretty Beat Up has an extra verse on 8-track and that there are differences in some songs on Dirty Work's 8-track?

Anyone ever notice anything on these 2 8-tracks?

after looking around ebay, discogs and google i can't find any evidence of undercover ever having a 8-track release

can anyone provide an image or some kinda evidence it was released?

weirdly though i did find dirty work on ebay for $85!

that's insane for a 8-track tape that undoubtedly i'd have repair before it could be safely play

though i did find she's the boss for half that price and with new foam and sense foil

anyone hear of anything unique to that?

Hmm I looked around for about half an hour and no sign of a 8 track release of Undercover.. I found every other album, including live albums and compilations like Made in the Shade, Sucking in the Seventees and Still Life, but not Undercover...

Dirty Work is quite rare, but 85$ is a very high price. In the ebay sales listings you can find sales of 30 dollars and below.
