Christmas songs 2020 - Should the Stones do one?
Posted by: Stoneage ()
Date: December 3, 2020 17:51

I hear many new Christmas songs on the radio now when we're into first week of Advent. Dolly Parton, among others. I guess it's not really the Stones' cup of tea,
with "Run, Run Rudolph" as an exception. But would you have appreciated a new song with a holiday theme from the boys? A Stones Christmas Song Anno 2020?
It would have fit right in with their "release one song at a time" agenda...

Maybe their version of The Kinks "Father Christmas".

Is "Winter" their only song to mention Christmas?

I'm sure Sir Michael, as a businessman, would disagree with you two, TT and D. The month of December is usually big business for the recording industry.
In the old days - when they (RS) still made records - December was good for sales. And Christmas songs are usually very lucrative for artists who still want
to stay in business and connect to their fans.

I can imagine Mick releasing a Christmas tune on his own- maybe even a brief tweet strumming a guitar and singing Jingle Bells whilst wearing a Santa hat.

Looking at your postal history, it seems that your first "Sir Michael"-post was on November 9, 2010 in Track talk for "Hang Fire".

So you have kept at it for more than ten years. Congratulations!

Absolutely not. Cashing in on Christmas is something lesser artists need to do.

Absolutely not. That's not their style. AC/DC did one sort of on 'The Razors Edge' with Mistress For Christmas and it's just the worst thing they've ever done.

Of course not...weird idea.
Boys...weird as well.

Of course, my idea is weird. You know better. Yesterday I saw an (live) interview with Dolly Parton on Swedish TV. Her new Christmas song is played all over the radio right now.
She has written more than 3,000 songs and now she has written 14 new ones. Dolly Parton is 74 years old. She said it was important for her as an artist to keep at it all the time.
Personally, I would appreciate a sign of life from the band (apparently we can't call them boys anymore) now and then. They are not getting any younger. That is for sure.
But then again I'm always against the grain here. The rest of you seem to prefer silence. Let's wait for the new album then. Or Godot...

It used to be.

It isn't now.

It won't be ever again.

The Rolling Stones haven't done any kind of holiday song, to my knowledge, anywya, and it sure looks like they never will.

Well I think if he has not done it yet, he actually agrees with Too Tough.

Sure, they have never been against some commercial stuff but doing Christmas record and release it in December is something no one would expect from them.

I was talking about one song, not an album. And it doesn't have to be about Jesus or even Santa. And it can be rock or pop oriented. Like Chris Rea for instance.
A perfect modern Christmas song. My initial thought was that any reason for them to make themselves heard again is a good reason.
The prospect of a new album is getting slimmer and slimmer anyway...

The Rolling Stones do not need Christmas as occasion for releasing song(s).

The release of Rolling Stones music is its own occasion.

Hopefully they may do that during 2021. Preferably an album. If not possible, one song instead. But, of course, no use of Christmas for such a release.

I guess nobody expected Bob Dylan to do a christmas album either..
