I didn't listen to him in my youthful days. Only later did I come to appreciate some of the music he recorded. A number of his songs are still part of my everyday listening mix. His catalog is well worth exploring. Not every song is great, but there are enough gems to make for a worthwhile music journey.

Wow, a few days ago I thought of starting this exact thread! Glad you did it. He was a big part of my musical early years. First Splish Splash. My all-time favorite is Dream Lover. Mack the Knife floored me. To me, he was the epitome of cool. As he got older, I loved his cover of Tim Hardin’s If I Were A Carpenter. He left us way too soon, but we can always enjoy his music.

I remember his TV show was great.

I distinctly remember him doing a hilarious version of "Sylvia's Mother" as a comedy sketch.

When I was a kid my older brother and I had a thing for this song and we would joke and run through the lyrics and have more fun than a barrel full of monkeys.

Sadly, in this day and age, you probably could not play this song on the radio.

Bobby was a genius. He'd suck you in, doing mediocre imitations. Just as you were about to give up, he'd do a brilliant one. He wasn't just a singer. He wrote many of his songs. And he could switch to different styles.

I'm glad to see some love for Bobby Darin here. He's become one of my favorites. I had initially dismissed him as a Sinatra wannabe, but he's so much more than that. Not only a really great singer who didn't oversing and had some creative arrangements (as demonstrated by "Clementine" above) he was also a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who could play drums, piano, guitar, harmonica, and even play a blues solo on a xylophone.
