Ronnie's Beggars Banquet (updated)
Posted by: MisterDDDD ()
Date: October 30, 2020 18:30

This (original) piece is what got me into collecting Ronnie's art.
(received as a gift and have added several pieces since)
Really love it, not so sure about this updated version yet.. always better to see in person, looking forward to doing just that at some point.

Ronnie Wood:
I've updated my Beggars Banquet painting to include
@bernardfowler, @lisafischersing @ChuckLeavell, Bobby Keys, Tim Ries and
@djonesbassist!

Good that Ronnie has hobbies.

Nice color, nice painterly technique, good attention to details...
Copying photographs can be okay, except:
Zero understanding of drawing basic human anatomy.

And revisiting/updating old work (of copied photographs) equates to lack of inspiration and creativity.
The use of burnt umber and sienna brown is somewhat nice , but can't help think of "turd brown" when looking at this rehash.
I think I see Chuck lurking in the left background...gag...and maybe Darryl on the right (?)...looks more like Sammy Davis Jr. though.

No Mick Taylor?

Isn't Mick Taylor in the painting on the very right side (above Darryl)?

Love the foreground... bench, bear rug, KR's boots, red-orange floor negative/positive beautifully done, nice and loose

Why would you put him in a painting within a painting? He was an integral part of the band, more important than Darryl ,Lisa,Chuckand the other sax player.Maybe it’s a backhanded comment to Taylor?Woodand he are friends for many years

Pretty sure that's a poor attempt at copying a Rembrandt self-portrait and adding it to his painting - similar to how he butchered some of Picassos famous paintings.

For sure. Easy to recognize. I wouldn't ask why there on a painting. It's simple, he's in there winking smiley

Zero understanding of drawing basic human anatomy.

Example:
Knee-to-heel.... Ron painted Keith's lower left leg bone (femur) much longer than the right leg! Looks sloppily drawn.

How come everyone in the painting looks like they are today, but Mick ,Keith and Bill look like they did in 1968? when I first saw Chuck ,I thought he was Keith with a beard

Well then, that changes everything winking smiley

An original of this piece (the first edition) reportedly sold for $1 million *alleged flaws and all.
No one pays that just because it was done by a Rolling Stone winking smiley
Great piece.

I think it is more accurate than you believe, probably painted from an actual picture. The right ankle, you can tell, is bent, so that would make the leg appear shorter on that side.

Nonsense...
"Foreshortening" (that is the artistic term for the effect that you mention) would occur if the length of a form (such as the leg bone) is angled directly towards the viewer/painter/camera

What actually happened to Charlie's right arm/shoulder? Was he drumming 'Helter Skelter' - "I got a hump on my arm" ? winking smiley

And does Keith wear Seven-league boots (tip of the boot vs. heel) ?

I don't know why people are calling this a hobby. Its what makes Ronnie who he is. His music, his family his painting is part of his DNA. It's in his heart and soul. This is not a hobby.

Chuck's right forearm is nearly twice as long as it should be...
LOL, That would be useful for playing honky tonk

I've noticed that too - Chuck's right arm is longer than he's tall in that painting.

Criticism aside - it's an artwork, no anatomical textbook. But they wanna have US$ 2600 for a large digital printout(!) of the painting ....
