What actually happened to Charlie's right arm/shoulder? Was he drumming 'Helter Skelter' - "I got a hump on my arm" ? winking smiley

And does Keith wear Seven-league boots (tip of the boot vs. heel) ?

And Charlie's left arm looks like that of a stroke victim...or even a corpse....he made poor Charlie looks like a ghostly zombie.
Totally unrealistic and unsettling pose.

I think this may be more suitable art for some.

I always enjoy this conversation.

1) I can't do paint or draw this well (+1 Ron)

2) If I saw a High School student produce this, I would think "Oh..cool...not that great...but, cool" (-1 Ron)

3) I work in a HS and my wife teaches art in that HS, so I see lots of stuff

4) I have no right to judge "art" beyond #3

5) If it were mine, I would sell it for the Highest Price Possible, so who am I to criticize? If I did that a lot, it wouldn't be a "hobby" anymore...it's not a "hobby"

6) To each their own. It's not for me. If you like it, that's good b/c we need more positive stoke these days...

Just wondering what it would look like if Mick Taylor would have painted it.

According to Dr. Pimple Popper, it's a lipoma. A benign lump made of fat cells.

Might be contagious as many in this painting have some form of disfigurement.
Almost reminds me of a scene from the movie Freaks...

Yes, I know that. But what if he was the painter? Would there be more strokes?

Why does Charlie look older in the painting than in real life but Keith and Mick look like they did in 1968?And the best part of the original album sleeve was the dog jumping on Brian.Ron may be a great guitarist but I don’t think he is that great at painting. They look more like cartoon strips than paintings

I think it is more accurate than you believe, probably painted from an actual picture. The right ankle, you can tell, is bent, so that would make the leg appear shorter on that side.

Nonsense...
"Foreshortening" (that is the artistic term for the effect that you mention) would occur if the length of a form (such as the leg bone) is angled directly towards the viewer/painter/camera

Nonsense ... You're measuring out in x-y coordinates and dismissing the z-axis.
(not saying i like the painting, just that it's not as off as you think ... and yes, you can tell the right ankle is bent, not to mention the right leg is at an angle)

I'm still trying to find Mick Taylor in the painting, but for the life of me don't see him anywhere.
A bit disrespectful on Ronnie's part to hide him like that imo.

Who is that in the picture on the wall, right side? Is that Mick Taylor?

Is Ronnie hisself in there anywheres? And I don't see that bass player, what was his name again?

This one is just terrible really, not much redeeming value there that I can see, and usually I am the champion of the arts and artists. Really off, distorted but not in a pleasant way at all, kind of tenth grade art class at best. Just kind of sucks, no two ways about it. Even the concept is pretty lame, or maybe I just don't get it.

Extra points though for that painting on the rear wall with the extract from the original cover, that's pretty clever even if poorly executed.

Maybe keep it to charcoal line drawings in the future, Ron.

And I guess thats Bill Wyman between the sax players. But that sure is a poor representation of Ronnie there, I guess he doesnt look in the mirror too much.

Still hurts my eyes to even look at that mess too long.

Beggars Banquet --- Ronnie Wood 1990

Interesting - looks like Ronnie took a copy of the 1990 painting as canvas and then he supplemented it ....

Are there 2figures of Darryl in the painting? There are 2dark skinned guys in the painting.Who is the guy at the table at the far left in front of Charlie? And who is the one on the right above Brian? And why is Mick be Taylor not there .Is that him in the painting on the wall? And why would Darryland the other Saxplayer next to Bobby Keys be more prominent than him?And where is Nicky Hopkins?Lisa Fisher but no Nicky Hopkins?

Mick Taylor is probably hard to recognize in the painting for those who aren't interested in Stones-stuff newer than 1981, because Ronnie painted the Hyde-Park-2013-version of Mick Taylor - [iorr.org] .... winking smiley

No. It's from the left to the right:

Bernard Fowler, Charlie Watts, Lisa Fischer, Chuck Leavell, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Ian Stewart, Bobby Keys, Bill Wyman, Tim Ries, Darryl Jones, Mick Taylor, Brian Jones.

I guess he took the original 5 members plus Ian Stewart and kinda added the 2014 Stonesband. But why is Charlie the only original member who looks like he does today and not 1968

Taylor is not in the painting - for those that think it's Taylor in the painting up on the wall. I don't think so. Again, it's a poor attempt at adding a Rembrandt self-portrait.
On another note, Bobby Keys was painted to look like former US president Jimmy Carter, while Tim Ries (?) looks a bit like Stevie Winwood - at least in Ronnie's versions.
And by they way, why is Sasha not in the painting?

Wonder where the tapestry edition ended up.

New tapestry of the Beggar’s Banquet painting unveiled at Ashridge House

"Critically acclaimed artist, musician, song writer, and esteemed Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood will collaborate with Ashridge House on a unique summer exhibition this August. To celebrate this exciting collaboration, a remarkable new large-scale tapestry of Ronnie’s original painting interpreting the iconic Beggar’s Banquet album now hangs in the imposing entrance of Ashridge House.

The original Beggar’s Banquet painting was acquired by a private collector in New York for a million dollars, Ronnie’s first million dollar painting! Ronnie told Ashridge House he created the painting by using sepia tones from the set colours used by Rembrant, one of Ronnie’s earliest influences.

What some of the critics had to say about Ronnie's recent exhibit in August:

"Yikes,These are frightening pastiches.
Perhaps Mr Wood should stick to making music and not cross disciplines".

- Paul Carter Robinson, the founder of Artlyst

He seems to have taken one of the greatest and most moving works of art (Picassos Guernica),
a desolate cry against war, and used it as the basis for terrible fan art to, er, himself.
Art is often about having a decent dollop of chutzpah, but this takes the biscuit.

- Oliver Basciano, editor-at-large for ArtReview

"Ronnie is infinitely better at playing the guitar than playing with a paintbrush.
Only a rockstar ego would think that it’s OK to put himself and his band boogieing on down amongst the devastation of Guernica.
And Mick as a Picasso dancer? Please, no.

Louisa Buck - Art Newspaper

"The best one can say,is that Ronnie Wood’s paintings are livelier than Prince Charles’s watercolours,
and he draws better than Margrethe, Queen of Denmark.
Some of the works are cheery, cheesy pastiches, but the Guernica is misjudged and horrible.
The citizens of Guernica were bombed and killed from the air. The Stones were only ever bombed on drugs.”

Adrian Searle - The Guardian

To be quite honest - Ron Wood is a terrible "painter" or artist.

I got those "hands" as a birthday gift from a millionaire friend of mine - hid them in my attic immediatelly. But don´t tell him!

He´s what he is - an all right guitar player and better when he´s on his own than within them Stones, he´s work/ collaboration with incredible Imelda May is just fantastic.

I think his dream job ended in a cul-de sac, artistic - them Glimmer Twins wanted a sideman without any ambitions outside his job.

His work with Rod Stewart (the Benny Hill of Pop, as they said, years ago...) is great, great songs, great playing, his own style developing and so on.

Other idiotic opinions allowed!

Lol.
Love all the hate for his "hobby".
Truly.

The best (as seen in this thread) criticism is usually from the frustrated failed artists, who somehow also fancy themselves as some kind of expert winking smiley

Love how this one piece has inspired them and others to post about it.
Thought this thread would get the usual couple comments.. but people are really examining the piece and researching his work etc.

Great to see.
