OT: James Bond Soundtrack

UMe is releasing an updated version of "The Best Of Bond...James Bond" soon (November 20th). 2-cd or 3-lp. I'm actually considering buying it.
To listen to in the car, or something... I think there have been some very good Bond theme songs through the years. Some bad also, of course.
The new Bond flick, by the way, will premiere in in April 2021. Postponed due to Corona. It's title is "No Time To Die".
Here is Billie Eilish's lead motive to the movie:

Don't know if I would buy and listen to a collection of music from Bond movies. Some songs were good, the rest, background. Of course, he says, with tongue in cheek, one must never forget such gems as this one from Dr. No. Catchy little ditty. Dr. No is, actually, one of the better early Bond movies, before they became popcorn entertainment. Someone posted all of the Bond books a few months ago on the Internet. I've been reading them in order and they are pretty good reads, far removed from the movie versions that were made of them.

Thanks for the heads up Stoneage...I like most of the Bond theme songs...the James Bond theme songs.thumbs up
I might preorder the double cd on AmazonUS for just $15.99, but it says not to be released until April 2021...that's quite a long wait.

I am a huge James Bond fan. What the Stones are for me for music, is Bond for me for movies. I always have to chose what I'm buying: Bond or Stones stuff, most of the time I'm buying both and everything.
Ofcourse I've ordered this collection already weeks ago. But together with a couple of books, Funko dolls and the original score, everything is delayed, incl. the movie itself to april.
At least I already have the Scalextric carslot.winking smiley

I had 'The Spy Who Loved Me' soundtrack on 8-track in the 70's. Some of the incidental music is pretty cool.

Mojave Club: [www.youtube.com]

Also, a New York City jazz band called Sex Mob did a whole album of loosely-based Bond themes ('Sex Mob Does Bond'; 2001), with some interesting results.

I`m happy with my James Bond Greatest Hits LP, a German edition that contains one side 60s until 1971, and the other side 70s until 1981. However, I never listen to the 70s side.

Wow. This thread could generate another: Who was/is the best Bond? I love Connery in the first three movies, but then.... I think Daniel Craig, especially in Casino Royale and Skyfall, is the best and they are the best Bond flicks up until now. In Skyfall, I dug use of The Animals "Boom Boom" when the bad guy came for Bond.

As for the other movie songs, yes, we all know "Goldfinger" and "Live And Let Die", but as for the others, Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" is the only one that stands out. I don't readily recall the rest. I will check out the songs posted above for a refresher course on Bond themes.

By the way, I cannot help feeling that the Skyfall song borrows a lot from the 60s` songs.

On Her Majesty"s Secret Service had a great instrumental title sequence and, of course, Louis Armstrong. Diana Rigg and Telly Savalas with some good winter action scenes also make this one work. I even like Lazenby and his humor. Not Connery, but better than Moore (who should have been better, given his The Saint series role).

Among the latter days Bond theme songs I must insist upon Adele's "Skyfall" theme.
Such a perfect film score. Oscar material. It did actually win an Oscar. Here it is:

Monty Norman, composer of the James Bond theme, just passed away at age 94. RIP.

The Bond theme has been and will continue to be one of the most recognizable melodies in all of cinema history.

A great Bond song has 7ths and a lot of minors, with major 7th resolves, strings and a vibe that says THIS IS A JAMES BOND SONG! Adele's Skyfall is fantastic. Tina's Golden Eye has a similar vibe to it although it's a bit forced. Sheena Easton's For Your Eyes Only is great. Live And Let Die has similar qualities to it. A View To A Kill is excellent in its own regard as being completely different... yet still has that Bond sound to it.

Sheryl Crow's Tomorrow Never Dies is a bit odd, to put it lightly.

The last Bond flick was a bit of a disappointment. I'm not that keen on Daniel Craig, to serious and keeps flexing his muscles. Not much of an actor.
I hope they make a better restart of the brand. A woman Bond? Why not? Just make it interesting...
