Gilmour vs. Waters, who was better?

None were in the 60s, unfortunately. I was born in 1970.
I saw Kiss in the 1970s (dragged along with my older brothers really) but main concert going started in about 1983 (sadly shortly after missing the Stones in 81).

In the Gilmour vs. Waters, I would definitely say Waters for me, though I tend to be more Team Gilmour.
Waters did a final rehearsal show for the Radio KAOS tour in Providence, and the local radio station gave away something like 50 pairs of tickets. My brother and I tried and failed to win, but the evening of the show, he said grab some Pink Floyd stuff and let’s go down to the Civic Center. So we waited out back, saw Roger arrive and got all out stuff signed (we completed them a few weeks later when Pink Floyd came to town). Anyway, we stashed the stuff in the car and then walked around the Arena to see where people were going in. My brother went up to the glass door and knocked and held up a 20 dollar bill to the security guard.
The guy opened the door and said, Are you guys on the list? Without taking the money. My brother, thinking much quicker than me, said yes.
So the guy said, go see Amy (or some woman’s name), she has a clipboard, and tell her your names. My brother says OK and then grabs me. As we’re walking down into an almost empty arena, I whisper to my brother, but we’re not on the list. He says, I know, so if you see anyone with a clipboard, walk the other way!
We got down to the floor and there were about 100 people in the whole place.
We walked right up the front and stood there watching the whole show.
It was amazing. I recall Roger even shouting at Andy Fairweather Low.
The tour opened in Providence, I think the next day, but I missed that one and saw Waters again about a week later at Great Woods.

I saw the Waters Wall show at the 02, I think in 2011. That was also good because I had 4th row.

I saw Gilmour about five years ago at Royal Albert Hall, and his new stuff was slow-ish (some say boring). I enjoyed it, but it didn’t blow me away.
I was, obviously, much more impressed with Gilmour the four times I saw them post-Waters when I was a teenager.

Yes sir. Born and raised in Pawtucket, and currently extremely saddened by the official departure of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
I was even at the longest game in professional baseball history! (In 1981]
My family still lives there (with all my Rolling Stones records and other stuff) but I have been living away for many years now.

Greetings from a fellow Rhode Islander Chris! I lived in Woonsocket until moving to the San Diego area back in 1981. Ah...Pawtucket. I used to work at the Star Market on Barton Street back in the day. It's a shame the Red Sox chose to abandon McCoy Stadium; went to a few games there myself. Also spent some time shopping at APEX too.

Before relocating to California, I saw quite a few shows at the Loew's State Theatre and Providence Civic Center, with a couple of forays to the Boston Garden. Highlight was obviously my first concert...at the age of ten: the Stones at Loew's in 1964.

It was pure pandemonium: fans standing on their seats and screaming at the top of their lungs...same thing we'd see on The Ed Sullivan Show when the Beatles or Stones would appear. The boys were on stage for less than thirty minutes...I think they played maybe a half-dozen songs...as the local authorities were afraid of a riot breaking out and cut the performance short.

Wow! Amazing! Loew’s became the Providence Performing Arts Center. I think I saw Robert Palmer and ELP there, if I remember correctly.
We used to go by the Star all the time. My brothers played a lot of hockey at the Lynch Arena around the corner. One brother was teammates when they were like 9 or 10 with Keith Carney, who spent 20 years in the NHL.
I saw a Bruins old-timers game there once, too.
Also around the corner was the Leroy. I think my oldest brother saw Rainbow there in the late 70s.
Nice you escaped to San Diego. I left in 1988 for USC and spent most of the next 6 years living in LA, and first seeing the Stones at the Coliseum in 1989 (three of the four nights).
Loss of the PawSox is huge for the city. But you guys in Woonsocket have claim to being the birthplace of two baseball Hall of Famers, Nap Lajoie and Gabby Hartnett. Nap was arguably the greatest second baseman ever for the current Indians (for a while they were called the Naps in honor of him). Gabby hit the Homer in the Gloamin’ for the Cubs and was the catcher in the World Series for Babe Ruth’s supposed called shot!

Don't want to hijack the thread but since you brought up Lajoie and Hartnett, I thought I'd mention ex-Brooklyn/LA Dodger pitcher Clem Labine, who was born in Lincoln, RI, but grew up in Woonsocket. My Dad, who spent some time in the minor leagues (Cardinals), had played some ball with Clem.

After Clem retired from baseball, he returned to Woonsocket where he worked for a local athletic apparel manufacturer. He was also a regular customer of my Dad, a tailor, and I got to meet him on a couple of occasions.

Wow, I was 8 years old when the Dodgers moved to LA. I can still hear Vin Scully calling the games with Jerry Dogget, and learning about the team, including pitchers Clem Labine, Danny McDevitt, Johnny Podres, Stan Williams, Drysdale, Koufax, et al. I haven’t heard Clem’s name mentioned in years.

I saw them in 2004 at the same festival as some bands I DID list, but yeah they were good live. They were bumped to the main stage after Bowie had to pull out of that years Headline spot....

RE Radiohead, I saw them on the OK computer tour in 97. It was the last album of theirs I bought and also the last time I seen them live!

I also expected better material from Robert Plant's solo career, but I guess most of the "magic" was gone after LZ/Bonham died. If you get a chance to see ZOSO and/or Jason Bonham's (LZ cover band), they're both damn good, like surprisingly good.

Yes, as McCartney's grand piano was rising out of the floor he fell into the hole. It happened in Tampa in 2005. It was before the song "Fine Line.'' He missed a great opportunity and should have played "Fixing a Hole.''

David Lee Roth also fell in Tampa during "Running with the Devil'' in 2015. He started to do a little shuffle dance and just fell over backwards, and being DLR he said, "That fall was brought to you by Budweiser.'' Best line of the night. Eddie looked over and laughed for a second but didn't miss a beat. You can see it at the 1:25 mark of this video.

I was at the Tampa VH show in '15! Didn't they play on 9-11 iirc? I'd forgotten all about the fall. We were on the lawn (very close to the amphitheater seats), center stage view. Got lots of great pics & videos, but the phone they were on died later & it wasn't backed up. We got there early, cooked out, had a few beers & a few special brownies. They had the Scooby Doo van 'Mystery Machine' & iirc the Ghostbusters (original) hearse from the movie in the parking lot. I was designated driver on the way home to N.Florida. Great night overall.

The magnitude, energy & decibel level of a large stadium concert can't be matched. However I prefer the amphitheater, smaller venues etc. More intimate, you really feel the connection to the artists more imho.

Great stuff. I read somewhere, can't remember where, I think an old Dodger lamented the fact that Clem wasn't brought in to pitch late in the final playoff game in 1951. Clem had pitched earlier in the series, so they were worried about his arm, but he apparently had a rubber arm. Instead, the Dodgers stayed with Ralph Branca and Bobby hit the Shot Heard Round the World.
There was also Chet Nichols and Chet Jr. Both major leaguers from Lincoln and Pawtucket.

Cheers Kevin! For NIN I went to Hollywood Bowl with my cuz who is a big fan and lives in LA but to tell you the truth it was a drag, almost fell asleep. As for G n R I haven't heard the full CD LP (no pun intended) but I love the both UYI records so live they have delievered, especially as they cover among others The Who and Johnny Thunders, so always enjoyable plus the missus adores Axl so when we see them she screams all through the concert which is a nice bonus

Regarding Plant I think he takes the right kinda approach (a bit like Dylan, keep evolving), as you point out, without Bonzo there's no point to keep going even if Jason's a great drummer (although I wouldn't mind them reforming, that would be amazing, would easily try to see at least 3-4 shows).

Thank God, I am ever grateful that Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie are still among us and kicking so we can enjoy their music for a long time to come.
