With incredible drumming on trax like:

Sympathy for the Devil
Street Fighting Man
Stray Cat Blues and
Jigsaw Puzzle

I am hard pressed to find anything better. Sure, Charlie Watts never has a bad day, never a missed lick, and is always recorded at the top of his game, and his drumming on Some Girls, Emotional Rescue, and earlier LPs like Exile and Goats Head Soup (100 Years Ago!!!) is so memorable. But, for me, the stuff on Beggars never ceases to remind me that the Stones' shift out of adolescence and into rock and roll "adulthood" was not just Keith and Mick, but Bill and Charlie both turning up their game worlds above that which we'd heard before.

When I saw your subject title, before even opening the thread, this was my choice, and Summer Romance specifically. With the original LP on a good system you can hear that bass drum get very subtly louder. Maybe they just mixed it that way but either way it’s awesome. I changed speakers and I can’t hear it anymore.

Some Girls is a pretty bloody well fantastic album, showcasing his skills. Respectable is a rockin' lil' number!

It's possibly a bit strange that the time frame of his style changing was 1977-78 when he really started to hold off on the hi-hat when he hits the snare.

Another thing that changes - the latter portion of the SOME GIRLS sessions, it seems, is when he got the China crash.

She's So Cold is the absolute perfect example of the 1977 onward Charlie.

The previous style is presented perfectly on Jigsaw Puzzle, Let It Bleed, Rocks Off, Dance Little Sister, all those thumpers.

Honestly, I think Honky Tonk Women is incredible drumming with its simple 'in your face' groove and lack of show offness. Perfect drumming for that song.

He's really good throughout GHS.

I think the only track with Wood on drums is Sleep Tonight. I know there is drumming on DW by Fig and Jordan but not sure which tracks. Too Rude didn’t sound like Charlie to me

I love the visual of the Stones in the studio jamming away, and then Shirley shows up, and everybody awkwardly stops playing, and Keith pretends to tune his guitar and Ronnie goes to the loo and Mick takes a phone call, until finally Charlie shuffles away with Shirley. And then Keith looks up and say, 'All right, wot now?'

Yes,Keith might did the "go", but they united. Them 1973 versions are impossible to re-do by themselves or any other band

I think Charlies drumming on "Exile" is perfect !
Also his drumming on Pete Townsend / Ronnie Lane's "Rough Mix" is awesome !

And for Charlie purists, "One Charlie to Another" the drumming is excellent

I've never believed that Charlie is on Fight or Hold Back. Neither sound like him.

Fiji Jim (Some Girls outtake 1978) has the classic bump n' grind groove Charlie, Bill & Keith are so famous for.
