Just passed. His big hit I Can See Clearly Now got me interested in Jamaican music which led me to Bob Marley and others.

Here's his Stir It Up.

I prefer his version of Cupid to Sam Cooke's.

Rest in peace, Johnny Nash

Wasn't his version of Stir It Up the first Bob Marley song to hit the top 40 in the USA?

I would think so, with Clapton's version of "I Shot The Sherriff" next.

"No Anchovies, Please"

I Can See Clearly now is great!
Stir It Up, not so much, can't compare to the original. Still it's very cool that he did it, I never knew that before.

The 1967 original is good but the version on Catch A Fire is better

The guy was practically single handily responsible for bringing ska to the U.K. mainstream. Well, okay, those coming over from the Caribbean, too thumbs up

Blackwell made his early fame and fortune by importing JA pre releases to the UK to sell to expats, so in a way that last statement is more true than most know.

Yes, of course! '73 Catch a Fire is what I was referring to, i was not aware it was from '67. I put it in youtube, not easy to find, all links seem to be the Catch a Fire version, or else live versions.
