They all sort of happened at the right time. Taylor had great chops, but Woody needed to come in to hold the band together. Bill was a great player but his heart wasn't into it anymore and Darryl brought a more energetic presence as they passed 50. Brian was fired at the right time for MT to create SF and EOMS.

For a while before Brian left he was barely contributing. My take on Wyman is that several of most memorable bass lines in the history of the Stones were created by and/or played by others. Many many other bassists could have added more.

Taylor kick started the band. His writing contributions, credited or not, far outweigh Brian's and Bill's.

Without a seconds hesitation i say Bill Wyman . The sound has not been the same since , nothing against Daryl Jones as i enjoy his playing as well . It's just the dynamic from Bill's booming bass is gone .
