He wrote a number of hits for himself and others, In The Ghetto by Elvis and Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me by himself probably the two biggest.

As a young teen in the early seventies, variety shows were all the rage.
Mac's was entertaining, as was Helen Reddy's. Both were all over AM radio.
