Do you still listen to Blue and Lonesome?

Fell out of rotation within a few weeks for me. The execution was okay but just nothing to warrant coming back for repeated listens. Great sound and production but the material doesn't get you pumped like an original Stones album would.

Sadly a bottom tier Stones release with zero longevity.

Fantastic album. I thought I knew the blues but most of the songs were new to me so it was just like having a proper new Stones album. They should do Vol 2 once they've put out the much delayed next record.

Luckily I didn't even bother to buy it. Even though the cover looked like "hey, come and buy me" in the store. People here were flabbergasted about it though.
I guess the thread was more than hundred pages long. Everyone praising it.

Listened to it twice.

Big Stones fan, big blues fan, but somehow it didn't click with me.

That doesn't make sense.

I'd rather listen to that than Bigger Bang for instance.

No, it's too boring.

I would say, typically some have not grown up with the Stones from the start. They started off as a Rhythm and Blues group evolving into a multi disciplined rock band. Many oldies (I mean fans) have long longed for a renewed Blues input from the Stones and they were rewarded with Blue and Lonesome, enjoyable every time. The members of the band grew older, recording technology changed, but that album has the taste of a band that hasn't forgotten its roots. The roots that took us to where we are now: Living In A Gost Town ....

Good question! No....which is weird because I really like it. But lets be honest....it's a covers album. So as the poster above me wrote, I've listened to Bigger Bang more recently than Blue.

I only listened to Blue and Lonesome once. I recently listened a lot to Midnight Rambler (Ya ya's). It's like every time I hear something new. (headphones).

Yes indeed. And Hoodoo Blues was the best track they've done in a long, long time.

A couple of tracks are a bit too loose, imo (Just Your Fool, the title track), but the rest is great.

I wish they released an album like that every year

I listen to it every other month. It's good but it's not a necessary play.

Cut quick ..closet ya gonna get to the
Stones using R&B tracks to warm up in the studio ....

As Dandee notes ... Hoo Doo was the dirtiest
blues song they'd cut in a long time ... They've never cut
deeper than the emotion drenched of Blue & Lonesome ..
Little Rain possibly the most delicate blues they've ever done ...

Mick's all over it all ... harp and vocals ....
love his stuff on Cant Quit You and Clapton ...

Great road album esp when ya travellin ta see your rider ...hhhaaa

heck yeah too.

I didn't really think I would ever again like a contemporary Stones album. But it proved me wrong. I like everything about it actually, and I like the back to basics approach.

I also like that it is all covers, its basically giving it all back to the originators of the music they built their careers on, the Stones I mean. All songs appear to be properly attributed as well. That means royalties flow back to the original artists, or their publishing companies anyhow.

That aside, I dig every song on it save maybe one. And I think it sounds like they really enjoyed making it. Thats important because happy musicians are good musicians; being cooped up in a studio when you would rather be elsewhere rarely yields music to be listened to more than once.

They need more like this!

Never as they're rather generic covers of great tunes, but occasionally I'll listen to live versions of Ride 'em on Down and Just Your Fool when they show up on boots such as Desert Trip I for the former and II for the latter.
They're decent live (especially if you were there), but the studio recordings not really at all- and that includes every other cover tune on the album. As someone once called it - Blue and Boring.
And as Mick once said "...What's the point in listening to us doing “I'm A King Bee” when you can listen to the original". Personally I love those early blues covers, but B&L sounded forced and contrived.

Funny, I thought about that just last night. Noticed it sitting on the shelf in the bedroom. Something about it doesn't make it a must listen. What I ought to do is make a mix of it with the first album, which I freakin' love.

Rolling Stones Now is probably my most played LP of theirs ever. Listened to it just the other night.
