So lucky to have got to see him a few years back. The Hollywood Bowl (god I miss it) has a Reggae Night each summer. This was a rather lackluster lineup with Ziggy Marley. Thank god Toots was the headliner and brought the audience back from the dead. Rest in Peace.

The thing is, he would have got a laugh out of that "pressure drop" remark himself. He was a great person to know and had this charisma that would win over even his staunchest critic. And he treated everyone like his long lost brother. The saddest part is the people he leaves in Jamaica; there were at least 50 people not in his band who directly survived thanks to his generosity. A typical story in JA, but a very direct connection with where he came from despite his fame and glory. He never lost his roots and was a true rastaman despite never flying the locks, but his heart was 100% gold.

So sad to hear. Like Keith said, he was a giant. RIP.

Yeah man pure updated classic there, my favorite version as well, from the Countryman soundtrack I think.

Riddem used a lot especially as refixed by Sly and Robbie for some 90s smash hits, Toots did a great update on this cut too.

Heres another remake by Toots, illustrating the direct lineage between he and the Stones...recorded at Byron Lee's Dynamic Sounds studio which may be familiar through GHS. This is more Carnival oriented sounding, using Lee's show band the Dragonaires, who were pretty "north coast" in sound and looks.

Kingston is less funky.

Saw him once, in 1999, warming up for J. Geils at the Bristow (VA) summer shed. About 1,000 people in a place that holds 23,000 in 105 degree heat. Both acts deserved better.

Legendary reggae radio DJ Chuck Foster did a great tribute program featuring Toots and the Maytals. Choose Reggae Central, Sept 13 to listen.

Giant is the right word to discribe Toots as a musician, I think.
A great loss to all music lovers around the globe.

I am hoping to go to his service, but not sure about getting in and out of the country with this Covid thing.

Not sure why the video is not showing up here, but click the link, its worth watching.

Remove the "s" in "https", and the video will show.

Petition to induct Toots and Maytals into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Yeah, I know, but still, it is what it is.

Induct Toots into RnR HOF

I mean, if The Police are in there (no idea really), how about some originators.
