If you bought the new deluxe GHS, is the Brussels show better than the “official” release that occurred about a decade ago? I have listened to the famous bootleg a hundred timesavers I will say the “official” release was good but I only bought the download version back in the day and now it’s gone. So was wondering how the new official version sounded from the box set. Jamming to Dancing with Mr D instrumental. Loving Taylor’s slide!

I was too cheap to buy the 4 disc set.

According to another post here, the new release does not approach the original download version as far as dynamic range is concerned, and I don't think it approaches the prior CD release, compromised as that one was.

In other words, sounds like the original dl rules.

How about the vinyl?

The box set was spread out over five sides, while this new one is condensed in to four sides.

That would have spread out the grooves on two songs which theoretically would have made for better sound or at least being able to jam a louder signal into the groove without making the stylus mistrack. I don't know if they took advantage of this or not but obviously they decided to save a disk with this release.

Thanks for the feedback. I wish my laptop with the original download had not crashed. I can’t find my CDR I made of the show nor can I find the FLAC files I made of the show as a backup.

Mmmm, cannot agree with that completely. Is sounds 'ok', but still too loud and boomy in my opninion. Had to turn the bass down a quarter and the treble up to make it more balanced.

On my old "NAD 7060 Receiver (tube amplifier) + Thorens 145 MKII Turntable" it sounds warm + great. Don`t forget Brussels was in 1973!

In terms of numbers digital download from 2011 had DR10-11. New 2020 has DR5-7 (average 6). Although, 2020 master (which is identical to 2015 WARD records release) has a couple digital clicks removed from Angie.

I know that this came out close to a decade ago (which is insane) but I totally just assumed it was the exact same mix and just a cheap thing they could throw in the box set.

I just had a listen to the vinyl. It sounds fantastic, and to my ears it sounds like the very same mix.

The vinyl from the original gynormous box set sounds so sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

It's the same Bob Clearmountain mix. If you still have the original download around, you will notice the 2020 release is louder though.

One small quibble - wish the CD Box had a sleeve for Brussels instead of just the CD in a slot in the book. The vinyl looks to have a proper (& cool looking) sleeve. A small thing, perhaps - but seems like a corner that just didn’t need to be cut.

The live performance is great, One of their best live records obviously. Soundwise it's not that great, but I agree with you, what to expect from a 1973 recording. Just being too critical I suppose

Sorry but it does not. The only cardboard sleeve is for the Blu-Ray.

It's not only a 1973 live recording. It's also a digitally tweaked and loudly mastered vintage recording. I agree the vinyl sounds ok but it could have sounded better.

well, I listened to it yesterday and I was somehow disappointed. At least in my memory the bootleg I have (on CD) sounded much better.

I don't know why they got that habit of destroying dynamic ranges, compressing the sound etc. That's all so stupid since not too many people outside the hardcore fan circle buy super deluxe boxes…
