Ever heard the Grateful Dead play Satisfaction?

Am watching a Dead concert on You Tube from December 31st, 1980 (their usual New Year's show at that time) at the Oakland Auditorium and lo and behold, they play Satisfaction at about the 3:39 mark here [www.youtube.com]

It's not half bad. Have a listen.

They played Satisfaction at the US Festival on Labor Day weekend 1982.

They murdered Little Red Rooster on Dead Set.

I prefer their country / folk stuff. When it gets to the blues, or blues-based rock, the Dead are lacking.

The Dead's Stones covers, especially Satisfaction, are awful. And I'm a Dead fan.

I heard a live version of Dylan's Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again by the Dead on XM. They extended the song and added lyrics - It was non-stop greatness!!!!

Yeah - this was a pretty lame version.

The Dead and Jerry solo did Dylan very well. Satisfaction was usually an encore and the Last Time played really well coming out of space. My favorite Little Red Rooster is NY Eve '87 the audience loved to howl during the "hounds" line. smiling bouncing smiley

The Jerry Garcia Band also broke out Moonlight Mile a bunch of times.

I’m pretty sure that in the many times the GD performed Dylan’s Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again, they never added or changed the lyrics. Of course, neither It’s All Over Now (Bobby Womack) or Little Red Rooster (Willie Dixon) are Rolling Stones songs, they just covered them. Same with Not Fade Away.

I did get to see Mick Taylor sit in with the GD on Little Red Rooster at the Rainforest Action Network Benefit show at Madison Square Garden in September of 1988, which was a solid rendition. Through the years, I saw the GD do a handful of covers of Satisfaction, sung by Bob Weir, often as the first song of a double encore, usually followed by a cover of Dylan’s It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue, sung by Jerry Garcia, to close the show.

The GD played it almost 30 times since debuting it in 1980. Here’s a list of some of the top-rated performances of it:

Moonlight Light was indeed played by JGB in '76. Sweet Garcia interpretation!! Let's not forget Let's Spend The Night Together live with Nicky Hopkins

I know it's a Hank Williams cover, but until ~2 yrs ago I'd never heard any version of this song & I love the Stones cover version. This is just as good however...

Bruce Springsteen has played Satisfaction and the last time in concert. He did a pretty good job of both.

I saw post-Jerry GD band Furthur play 'Satisfaction' in Portland OR 2012.

Also saw the GD play 'The Last Time' in Hamilton ONT 1990.

...and The New Riders of the Purple Sage play 'Dead Flowers' around 2010.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood could throw in a Stones tune on any given night, including 'Sweet Virginia' and 'Time Waits For No One' (!)

Time Waits by CRB (skip to encore at 1:02:30): [www.youtube.com]

Guitarist Neal Casal (RIP) executes the solo nicely.

The Rolling Stones are the best cover band of all time. The Grateful Dead are the worst.
