1972 L.A. show - 25 pix from second row center

Back in the time machine, this time to 1972. The Rolling Stones were heading back at the Forum in L.A.

I had gone to the late show in L.A. in 1969 and with no conscience and no security (hmmm...) I had moved from the upper bowl to right in front of the stage. Pretty ballsy for a 15 year old kid.

After that experience, I was going to do whatever it took to get back to the stage for the '72 tour. I was 18 and it was the first time my that I and my friends decided to camp out at the Forum in L.A. to snag the seats we wanted.

I was second in line at my ticket window. The guy in front of me got first row seats, but they were off to the side. My seats were second row dead center. Game on!!!

Fast forward to the shows... I had been to the show at the Hollywood Palladium two days before the Forum show. That one was general admission. We had regular seats for the Forum show, so I thought it would be cool to see if I could get a camera in. Stuffed it in my jacket and in we went.

I had never shot a concert before, so I didn't know what I was doing. The quality of some of these isn't quite what I had for the '75 shows, but there are a few real nice ones.

I hope they don't sue me, but I sold quite a few prints back then and the last picture kind of paid for my college. (Of course tuition at Cal State Northridge was way lower then!)

As with the '75 shots, I put them in a gallery you can see here:

[stones72la.shutterfly.com]

When you go there, click the link for slideshow to see larger images. I suggest that you also click the link for Options, then select the slowest speed, so you can go through them at your own pace.

A few quick notes:

Sorry Wyman fans, I guess I never got any pix of him. You can fire on me now.
And yes, Bobby Keys fans, I included one of him.

Enjoy!

Great Pics no doubt ... Why is it always L.A.? Do folks or concert goers not have cameras in other cities?

Much simpler than that.. It's where I grew up. I was 18 when I took these. Just out of high school.

This is a treasure trove of photos from the glory years when they were at the peak of their live shows. (At least in my opinion) And your accompanying stories are the icing on the cake.

Again, many thanks for taking the time to post all of these glimpses of an incredible era.

Fantastic!

I recognize this one:

Either I've seen it before, or it's just real similar to another professional photo. It's Mick Taylor's pose and shirt that I recognize.

I noticed the same thing. There is a well-known Jim Marshall photo (I can´t find it online at the moment) which looks almost exactly the same and must have been taken only a few seconds before/after this shot from the same location. Keith is smiling and looking over Mick Taylor´s shoulder.

I checked my Jim Marshall Stones 72 Book, and there is no photo like the one Vibrolux took, only a black and white one featuring MT alone and wearing the same outfit.winking smiley but you 're right Jim Marshall should have been not far from Vibrolux.

Not this one. The slide has been sitting in a Kodak Carousel slide tray for almost 50 years. I've never printed or shared it until now. But it's very possible that someone else took similar shots.

Thanks for these great pictures. Why did you wait that long before you shared them, may I ask?

You are right though, this photo does not appear in Jim Marshall´s 1972 Tour book.
