I always thought Bobby was given the boot in 1973.

If I understand correctly, Bobby was dropped out after the champagne bath incident and bad influence on Keith. However, he was invited as a guest like in LA '75 and Hampton '81. He toured again as regular member starting in 1989.

I wonder what happened to Jim Price, the trumpet twin ?

edit to add
His wikipedia page is slimer than slim.

Bobby returned for the Europe 1982 tour...

Thanks for the info

Amazing pics, thanks for sharing smiling smiley The one where Bill has his hands over the pickups is especially great. He looks so serene.

greats photos, thanks ... very surprise to see that bobby keys play , at least one night with the band on the TOTA 75 !

He played on several shows in LA that tour

Apparently only the last 3 L.A. shows.
Imo that was the result of the power struggle between Keith and Mick. Mick wanted to never work again with an unreliable junkie (who had failed them on the Euro'73 tour).
Keith in his "who the f@ck is Mick Jagger" mode considered Keys to be part of the band so he called him onstage every time the band hit California (in 75 78 and 81 where he basically joined the touring caravan after a cameo during the L.A. gig).

He was not with them in San Francisco '75, Oakland '78 nor San Francisco '81. Nor Anaheim '78. I was at those shows but I can't speak about other California shows.

Really weird. A roadie brought the other microphone stand over and then all five of them came right to the front. Whoa! What's this all about??? Why are Billy Preston and Ollie Brown joining them?

And then they start it. And it was very cool. Quite the surprise.

I also remember the drums were bigger than on the original recording. You can hear this on the various recordings of these shows.

It was very unexpected and very, very cool!

following wikipedia
"He toured extensively with The Rolling Stones from 1970 until 1973, including their 1972 American Tour, and appears on the albums Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St. and Goats Head Soup."

My understanding is that Eric Clapton met both Bobby Keys and Jim Price while touring with Delaney & Bonnie and Friends in 1969. The pair played after that on Clapton's first solo album and then with the Stones. He seems that Price retired early from Rock n Roll.
